Help Replacement phone to do list

Getting a replacement from the shack today, (dust + won't turn on right away usually) and I need to know how to

- Completely wipe phone
- Save contacts
- Save screen setup if possible
- Settings if possible
- Get the same apps (especially paid)

Anything else you recommend would be great. I have system panel app manager if that helps. Not sure if its SD back up is any good. Please help

FYI - "My Backup" didn't work. It says it won't back-up my contacts to the new phone, unless I purchase the full version. Kinda wish I knew that before hand. Any other tips on how best to move contacts and other data from one phone to the replacement?

open app drawer, people, menu, import export, export to sd card.

do people and gmail...though gmail should already be synced to gmail and will sync with new phone when you login

mybackup should cover most everything else. you might make an extra back up of apps just in case with astro file manager or app brain

paid apps are tied to your gmail addy so you will be fine there

my backup should save the other stuff. didn't work well for me..others love it.

...oh and you will prolly want to wipe last ...i notice it is the first item on your list

remove your sd card. turn on phone while holding power buttons and wipe there or at menu.settings.sd and phone storage.factory data reset

Thank you Mr. Ed. Doing this was easy. Not only did it transfer all of my contacts over, it also transferred all my MMS message, and (most important to me) all my "Favorites" (or starred) map items as well.

Highly tangential question - within Maps there appears to be a My Maps option. As a frequent international traveler, the ability to use GPS without relying on a data connection is important. Any tips (or links to same) on using My Maps for this purpose? Further, is there an ability to store maps from the phone itself into My Maps? It appears the only way to get Maps into My Maps is from saving such on the computer first, and then transferring it. Am I missing an easy alternative option? Ideally, i'll just serf to the location of interest on my phone, say from the hotel room wifi, and then save that map. Then leave the room and utilize the saved map from My Maps. Yes, you can sort of do the same from within Maps, but I've had terrible luck with it being reliable. usually the buffered map will disappear in short order.

Lazy, I haven't toyed with My maps yet. I have a friend using it and will ask him about it. he also travels internationally and was just telling me about some of it's features yesterday
