Im torn between leaving Iphone (att) and going to sprint for the Evo4

Hi guys im new here, just registered today. I been researching for a few weeks now in hopes of finding a new phone. I want to leave my iphone for the evo4 but not sure it it's worth leaving att and my 25% discount to have the evo on sprint. I'm tired of my iphone and need a change. has anyone left iphone for a droid phone? Does anyone know of any other droid phones besides captivate coming to att this year?? hows the evo4 vs captivate??

I would say go for it. Just got my Evo from sprint yesterday, and it's great.
I've been with sprint for roughly 12 years, they never disappoint me.
Also, the 25% discount was great. It really helped me out, I got a Car Charger, a Body Glove for the phone, screen protectors, and a Holster for about $62. Without that discount it would be around $80 or so.

Get the Captivate and stay on AT&T. The EVO is nice, but the Captivate is better in nearly every way minus the fact that you will have to use a work around to sideload third party apps.

I just purchased the HTC EVO. Have been a long time iPhone and Mac user.
Think the EVO will be going back soon. Sprint service at my house is not any better than AT&T service. At a friends house the 4G service is great.
Whats missing: No bookmark folder in the web browser. Nor do bookmarks sync from desktop.
No native iTunes syncing. DoubleTwist is not iTunes replacement. Does not sync podcasts.
I have to use two separate email program on the EVO. The HTC email program can only do one ActiveSync account.
I considered purchasing the Samsung Captivate. Everyone has been going on about the screen. But look closely at the screen, everything has a ghost image. It's like looking at an old CRT monitor.

I will say this: Android is not as "easy" to use as iOS. But Android is a lot more powerful. And yes, you will be giving up some things if you switch, but you gain so much more.

I'm more impressed everyday. I was able to sync everything without ever plugging the thing into my computer. I only plugged it into the computer for the first time today to install a non-market app. (Why doesn't the evo come with picasa integration out of the box? Dumb.) Good luck doing that on iphone without jailbreaking.

if you don't mind can you list what you've lost and gained by going to EVO from Iphone.

Also are the apps downloaded over the air or do you have to plug the phone in to the computer?

I went from an iPhone 4 to the captivate. I have owned every iPhone made. And i will tell you, you won't regret it. Like others have said the it is a completely different experience these phones are more like using a computer. They really are almost limitless. Both have pros and cons there are tons of reviews on great sites comparing all the droid phones then all the droid phones to the iPhone. I spent 5 days reading reviews before i took my iPhone 4 back and got my captivate and it was completely worth it. It is a great phone and in my area AT&T have the best service so it was my best option lol

Whats missing: No bookmark folder in the web browser. Nor do bookmarks sync from desktop.

Same thing with the HTC Desire Z. The way I got around this is to dedicate a home screen for internet bookmarks. I create folders on the home screen and store the bookmark shortcuts in those folders. Not the most elegant or most effecient way, but this workaround does the job for me (and I do have a home screen to spare).

The bookmark sync is limited. I can only sync my bookmarks on my phone with one bookmark folder on my browser. You pretty much have to copy the bookmarks to that one folder and then it will sync to your phone's browser. Not the most elegant solution and only useful for bookmarks that are difficult to type in. Also, if you want any type of folder structure, this won't work.

But I think sprint has a discount for you too... ask them.

I love my Evo, I never had an iphone so I can't really compare the two. But the Evo is like my mini tab, browsing is fantastic with built in flash. Everything for navigation to social network integration works flawlessly on my Evo.

Where do you get your discount? Unless it is working at ATT, I am willing to bet that same place gives discounts for Sprint. I just went from iPhone 4 to Sprint with the EVO and don't have a single regret. After rooting and modifying things the way I like them, this phone outshines the iPhone in every way IMO, minus maybe screen sharpness (although it isn't as night and day difference as some would have you think). As I say, I gained TONS more than I lost with this switch. FWIW Sprint's everyting plan is cheaper than the equivalent from ATT, even with the 25% discount (girlfriend had that discount before).

I will comment on this and say that I find flash to be a waste. It will depend a lot on the types of sites you visit. Most sites I visit have flash ads... something I didn't care about anyway. When you actually get into real flash content, the flash is too laggy (on any phone I have seen) to really be a perk IMO.

There are absolutely pros & cons for both. Remember you're on an Android site so you're likely to hear some biased opinions. I definitely prefer the EVO over the Captivate. In my opinion, HTC's build quality and update reputation is much better than Samsungs. A great thing about trying out Sprint is that they really have a 30 day worry free guarantee. If you buy the phone and don't like it, you can return it within 30 days, pay no restocking fee, no activation fee, and you don't even have to pay for usage. It's pretty cool and I wish other companies would do it. There are of course things that iPhone does more "seamlessly" than Android, but that's made up for in sheer flexibility.

You make no mention regarding coverage with the new carrier. Have you looked into that at all?

Absolutely. Some remain with Android and others switch back. It's not a one-size-fits-all world. If you switch carriers, all carriers allow you to cancel without penalty within X number of days so just be aware of the cutoff and fully try things out. IIRC most carriers also allow you to return devices within a certain number of days.

What exactly are you looking for? Threads like this always seem to omit this important info. I mean, if you just have tech ADD then it probably doesn't matter what you switch to, you'll probably just get tired with the new toy after some time. If, on the other hand, what you're looking for jives with what an Android device can provide then we might be able to give you some meaningful and relevant feedback.

I found that Bookmark Manager Pro did the trick for me. It integrates with the stock browser fairly well. The full version costs 1 pound. The free version has adds and only allows 2 folders, but at least you can try it out. I tried it out and loved it, so I paid for the full version.

I did install Opera Mini as I had it on my old phone. Opera Mini allows me to easily migrate my bookmarks over to my new phone (as it is stored in the cloud). I hardly ever use it now, that I have Bookmark Manager Pro.

There are also a variety of other bookmark apps you can use with different features available on the Android Marketplace.
