Help Bluetooth car kit connection problems with Hero Android 2.1

My Bluetooth connection between my Sprint HTC Hero and my 2009 Mercedes C300 worked flawlessly for 7 months. Last week, Sprint upgraded my phone to Android 2.1 and I have not been able to hold a connection since. I believe that something is flawed or missing in the BT 2.1 component of this ROM upgrade. They pair but go into a patterned connect/disconnect every 30 seconds. Sprint and HTC are stumped so far. Is there a way to replace JUST the BT portion with the previous version?

Im not sure of any fixes, and I am experiencing the same problem, but I did speak to sprint tech support and they are aware of the issue and it has been passed along to htc (or atleast so they say haha)

This happened to me, too. On the HERO, Bluetooth Settings Menu, after making the connection, I checked the OK box for the "Trust This Connection" query. I can't give you the exact steps to follow, but turn your car off, turn your HERO off then start the car's NAV/Bluetooth and then turn on your HERO. Go directly to the Bluetooth Settings Menu and when the connection is first made, you see the query, and you should immediately check "OK", otherwise it will just disappear. That solved my issue.

I had this happen twice, once when I installed the Sprint 2.1 RUU Leak, and the second time when I installed the Official Sprint 2.1 RUU (from the Sprint website). Checking OK fixed it both times.

Yes, this exact same thing is happening in my Mercedes C350. Connect/Disconnect, Connect/Disconnect. Very frustrating!

My Android 2.1 mobile phone does not sync my contacts and recent call list to my bluetooth car kit too.
It used to happen ok with my 50

I read these forums before upgrading Sprint HTC Hero to 2.1. So I tested it a Sprint store with one of their 2.1 phones. Worked fine. I have a late model (purchased March 2010) Pioneer Bluetooth Car Stereo unit and have had NO problems with bluetooth using Android 2.1.

I thought it would be helpful for folks to know what 2.1 works with, and save you a trip to the store. I'll try to post the Pioneer model number when I get a chance.

I have Hero and COMAND in my Merc. With Android 1.5 it has been brilliant. With the update to 2.1 (On Orange) it won't connect. It pairs fine but just won't connect. So every 5 seconds it cycles on and off. I use the hands free kit a lot so it's a real PIA!! I've tried factory reset but to no avail...

Any suggestions gratefully received.....

well, unfortunately, there's no fix!
i have the eris droid - verizon....loved the 1.5 version. sync'd up perfectly w/my mbz c300. NO ISSUES...until now. the 2.1 update is flawed. of course they won't admit it. sent me back and forth to the dealership, created a "trouble ticket" and when i finally called to confirm i had exhausted all my options, htc then stated "well, you need to buy a different phone. there's nothing we can do.

Yeah my resolution was about the same. They can't (read won't) do anything. I've downgraded to 1.5 again using the RUU on HTC's web site. So disappointed but not much I can do.

I'd love to get a Desire - apparently they work with COMAND - they run 2.1 natively (and have just updated to 2.2) so I don't understand why the Hero won't work.

I just bought a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Uconnect hands free bluetooth system. I was able to successfully pair the phone with the Uconnect system but it randomly disconnects itself. I went to the Jeep dealer and they told me that it was my phone. Has anyone had similar issues or does anyone know of a solution? It will connect, I can place a call but then in the middle of talking to someone it just goes dead. There is a timer that shows up on the radio display that displays the call duration. When it cuts off the timer just freezes and switches back to the radio after a few seconds. When I look at the phone, it appears that the call has not ended but I can't hear the other person and they can't hear me.

Any advice would be great. THanks

I am going to look at HTC's website to see if I can downgrade back to 1.5. I upgraded to 2.1 because I liked the new features...but didn't realize it was going wreak havoc on my Bluetooth!!!

Please let me know if there are any updates to fix this!!! I am seriously considering going back to a Blackberry, after this annoying experience!

Unfortunately, unless you rooted your phone, and made a nandroid backup of your 1.5, I don't think there is any way to go back to 1.5

Have you tried the latest Sprint/HTC maintenance releases (updates)...you should be able to get them over the air...menu/settings/about phone/system updates

It didn't reset it back to 1.5, but it did reset all settings including the bluetooth application. Please understand, this does wipeout all personal settings including all contacts and installed applications. Also, make sure you delete all phone pairings within your in-car bluetooth system. Now pair your phone with your bluetooth device. This worked perfectly for me.... Everything is functional including phonebook download and voice recognition. Let me know if being tried and how it went.

Thanks. I just did the factory data reset and it seems to be working now. Haven't messed around with the phone book yet but I'm just glad to have it working. What Kind of phone do you have? Have you been able to stream media audio over bluetooth to the uconnect?

Glad to hear that it works. I have the HTC Hero through telus and no, I haven't tried streaming media audio yet. I'm not sure how to do it yet... Let me know if it works for you!!

would be to delete all "other contacts" that google has saved for you via emails etc on your phone. When the cars bt tries to sync those contacts the .vcs files or what they are called gets inadecuate data such as missing names and stuff. This has been confirmed to work in other threads - originally from a french site trying to pair a droid 2.1 with a renault.

Ill try this asap when I get my new car this week to see if it actually works but it's ALOT faster than reseting your phone and having to reinstall all useful apps you've gathered.

Has anyone tried to delete all pairing of the phone to the car kit and the car kit from the phone, start a new pairing session and this time when the request for permission to download the phonebook, select "decline" instead of "accept". The request will pop up a few more times, just ignore it and it will go away. does the phone stay connected now?
The next time that you get into the vehicle, the request to DL the PB will appear again and as before just ignore it. Does the phone connect and stay connected?
The issue is the way that the PB is being downloaded to the car kit and I have seen this to be the issue when a phone was working but doesn't after an update. Hope this is helpful till a new update comes out that fixes the bug.

I have this same exact issue with my Motorala Backflip (connect/disconnect loop) running Android 2.1 and my 2011 Hyundai Sonata. I have tried many different things posted on many sites. Here is a variation of one solution that works for me to connect consistently.


1. Delete the pairing in both the phone and the car kit.
2. Pair the devices.
3. Allow continued access to the phonebook when the prompt appears in the phone's notification bar.
4. Leave bluetooth on.
5. Turn off the car.


Now whenever you get into the car, do the following:

1. Start the car.
2. Immediately make a call from the phone (I call my voicemail).
3. After you hear the call switch from the phone to to the car kit, hang up the call using steering wheel controls.

What I think is happening here is that by making a call during the connection process, you a forcing communication through the entire bluetooth stack. This must not be happening during the automatic connection process (but should be).

Try this and see if it works for you.

In addition to the connection issue, I had an issue where the the car kit was stuck downloading the phonebook. I did the following, which seems to have worked:

1. As stated in my previous post, allow continued access to the phonebook when the prompt appears in the phone's notification bar.
2. Clear recent calls list (in dialer > menu).

This, along with the instructions in my previous post, has worked for me.
