Help Do not upgrade to 2.2, epic 4g/galaxy s

I don't reccommend upgrading unless major changes are made. My favorite apps don't work anymore.

Most importantly, THERE IS NO DICTIONARY. You have to manually enter each word and long press it to store it. For example, I typed, "helo" and it suggested "?" or "."

The voice to text feature does not work well anymore. From about 80% accuracy with version 2.1 down to about 20% accuracy with 2.2.

DO NOT UPGRADE TO ANDROID 2.2 UNLESS YOU WANT HEADACHES.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

dude you did a custom leaked rom. some rom builders leave things out or use different versions or different programs for things like voice search. just go to the market place and do a search for voice search its by google install it and it will be fine. never upgrade to an unleased beta os as you never know what was wrong with it in the 1st place. thats why they did not release it yet. i am not a fan of the rooting as the evo and epic s are just fine out the box.

Ive tried 2.2 twice and dont like it really. Better flash support is not all it's cracked up to be and I thought Id have access to the 2nd web cam and it does not.

Regardless, I think the 2 leaked 2.2 out there has crappy and horrible memory management then the DI18 Ive noticed this closely with 2.2 that anytime I use my Web Browser (Any Browser) it eats up a large chunk of memory. It dips well under 100 Free Memory, and once I kill Browser/Settings/Task Manager, wooolah! I get an extra 100MB back.

With DI18, I can have a lot of stuff open and running and always have over 150 free Memory

I agree with you on this area. The memory management is totally busted. At one point I. Couldn't leave angry birds for even one second without the OS kiling it! I literally hit home and entered right back into the app and it went straight to the start (rovio white screen).

Also, on DI18 2.1 build, I could have my browser opened in the background for my whole 8 hour work shift and it would be just as I left it, no issues. I hit the browser app and it went right to where I left of from last without reloading the page or anything. It was awesome. Now I can't even leave sometimes for 30 seconds without the browser reloading my page upon re entering the browser app.

Also, over all, the smoothness and framerate was higher on the DI18 2.1 build than it is on this beta build. I notice it mostly on the notification drop down and home screen scrolling. Simply observe how much smoother pulling down the notification bar
Is on DI18 than on Dk28. (Although 2.2 launches apps and performs tasks faster than on 2.1. Running services is now MUCH faster for stopping apps.)

As for the dictionary, I am using swype and the dictionar works 100% the same as 2.1 did. It saves my words properly and suggests properly. Also, flash has been well worth 2.2 for me. I use it way more often than I expected. I have my settings for flash set as "on demand" btw. This way the browser stays smooth. Also, I've been finding that voice to text works quite well for me on 2.2. Not sure why you're having trouble with it.

All in all, for a beta, it works pretty good but it leaves me wanting an official and optimized build of 2.2.1 or even 2.3. I mean let's get real, its almost 2011 and we are not even on Froyo. They missed it, their deadline was supposed to be before the end of the year and we are almost passed it. I hope they just skip 2.2 and start working on 2.3 honestly. (If they are able to get it out in a timely fasion).

Lol, we must be on different dk28 builds cause the memory management is horrible on my end. Its almost worse than dk17, but probably equal cause of same issue. Its so bad in fact that you can't use gps navigation in the background. If you switch to a screen other than the gps screen with the blue arrow, you will hear "gps signal lost"like I did when I was using it. It kept happening and soon I figured out why.

I'm hopeful that the official froyo build well be much more optimized and smooth

I will say, although I like 2.2, it really does suck up memory like never before; that was 1 of the 1st things I noticed as I use System panel, & the memory & CPU is always @ 100% until I shut everything down, but its rite back within minutes... My ringtone, which I think is due to memory or som'n, resets too after a reboot(changing batteries) & sometimes after closing everything due to the memory leaks...

thatz my only gripe with it, so I'll hold on to it until the next one drops & see if that fixes it...

Umm, you guys do realize that it is not an official release you are installing right?
Mannnnnn, does people think we're retarted or som'n? everyone knows that  jeeezzz... besides the OP, we've pretty much all said, we'll see how it goes when the actual one comes; who cares that its not official; I'm a beta tester for many companies so I know the ropes of betas etc...

Can people get off the , "U kno its not the official"... I would think 'the people' in Mars knows this by now

I wasn't talking about people testing the release, I was talking about non-tech people installing it and complaining that things don't work.
Understood; I'm jus talking about the fact that @ this point, everyone knows its not "thee one"; so ur rite in that ones complaining that its crap etc, thatz totally on them...

I'm sorry to say that I have not had any of the problems that you guys are speaking of. My only but was my GPS failed, but I found a link via xda-developers.com on fixing that. I have no gripes about the leked 2.2. I must say that i don't play Angry Birds and have noticed no major battery leakage overall, and I do quite a bit of texting, web surfing, phone calls, etc. I'm running TrulyEpic Froyo and am recently rooted. 2.2 is cool w/me.

That's because you jumped the gun, and downloaded a beta version of 2.2. When it's officially released, hopefully none of those problems will exist.

If I were to answer this based on your typing skills (or should I say...skilz) then yes...that would seem appropriate.

I (along with many others) are much happier with a leaked beta Froyo, than a solid Eclair. There are more features, increased performance and battery life, improved GPS, and the knowledge that you are on the new version albeit not completely polished and ready for the masses.

On another note, I was having some issues when I upgraded from DK17 to DK28. I fixed them by flashing back to stock and then directly to DK28. The issues I had were mainly the browser crashing on me, intermittently.

I also froze all the sprint bloatware with titanium. Here is a list of the bloatware that I don't use but would open out of my control, before freezing them:

Amazon MP3
Calendar 1.1 - I use Jorte instead (it actually syncs with the google calendar which also syncs with outlook calendar)
DRM Content 2.2.1
DRM Content Launcher 1.0
GMail 2.3 - I use K-9 email, instead (it is far superior to the standard email app)
Media Hub 102
[SMS/MMS PREFS]Messaging 2.2.1
NASCAR 2.2.22
Qik Video 0.04.73
Sprint Football Live 2.2.22
Sprint TV1.04.32-113310
Sprint Zone SZ_2.1.13
SprintTV Widget 1.0
Y! Finance Clock 10.11.17.01

Some of these would run, without me opening them. If they are open, in my opinion, they are using available resources. This could be cause for some of your memory leaks.

Hey Bugg, the new Amazon update fixed the Opening of Amazon on its own; so I unfroze that because I do like previewing music from time to time & checking out the free song of the day..

As for the msg app, hav u received any MMS since doin that? I don't think u can get any without that but maybe its different on Froyo...

I have no use for the Amazon MP3 but, if you do, that's cool. I have slacker radio, pandora, and a huge library of MP3 so, it's completely useless, to me.

Thank you for bringing up the MMS thing. I just froze that one, today. I thought that since I could recieve SMS, that MMS would work, too. I was mistaken. I am going to defrost it, right now.

Only new to this one...and yeah, I do type everything out as it's too much of a frickin pain to try to read through all that bogus shorthand crap. Gives me a headache trying to figure out what people are trying to say. And seriously...with swype, is it really all that hard??!!

It's no wonder our youth today are dumber than sacks of wrenches...
