Is there any way to make it NOT turn off Wife/3G when the screen turns off if a specific app is running?

So far the only thing I've done to make it sort of work is a profile with task where when WinAmp is started, the screen is set to ON (on AC or USB), and the brightness is set to 0. Works except then as soon as the app is started the brightness goes down making it hard to read to select streams.

Did you make a profile that uses the Application Context for that? If so, try adding a second Context for Event > Display Off. Then your Task can just be Net > WiFi On.

I have a third that turns them off when I start an ebook reader app, and then wife/3G resumes again once I exit that app.

So far, those work great for me, but today I ran into this. I tried using streaming music (ShoutCast through WinAmp). Works great until the screen turns off.

On your profile that turns wifi off add another context. Make it an app context and when you select the app there is a button at the bottom that says "not", make sure that button is on. Once you add that context your wifi off profile will only activate if that app isn't running.

You are right. I forgot about the "not" button.

I purchased Tasker but cannot seem to get the hang of it. Can someone start me on the road to create these above?

When you open Tasker, at the bottom select New. You can name your Profile now, if you want. A Context dialog pops up, select Event, then Display, then Display Off.

The Task dialog opens, select New Task. You can also name your Tasks, but for now just choose OK. The + sign along the bottom adds actions, press that. From here, choose Net, then WiFi, and finally WiFi Off. You can add other tasks like Net > Mobile Data > Off, as well as others for whatever you want.

Select Done. Along the bottom be sure On is selected, before exiting press Apply.

You can add more Contexts for Days, Time, and many more options. Try experimenting and and look over the Tasker website for other ideas. There are even Profiles you can download and import to your phone.

When viewing one of the options, select the ? at the top, and it tells somewhat about the option you chose.

Yes. While in the Tasks menu, on the bottom right, there is a colorful, square-looking icon there. Press that and, for now, choose Built-In Icons.

Edit: Scratch that. I didn't think first. Add another task in each. Use Alert > Notify. Choose a name for the alert, this only appears briefly but the icon you choose remains.

You will then need to use an Exit Task to clear that by using Alert > Notify Cancel and entering the alert name you used.

Yikes! What were you using it for? I've never even had it show up on the battery usage screen.

If you look at the tasker website it states that GPS tasks are going to kill your battery. I have never had anywhere near that much battery drain but I don't use location based tasks either.

Did you try using cell or network location contexts instead? I use these methods for location based contexts and never see more than 2% battery usage ( and I have a lot of profiles).

I founded out about Tasker just a few days ago, and for me, its almost the best app in the market.
Only your mind sets the limit, tasker can do pretty much everything.

Here are my profiles so far:
Turn on GPS for Maps, Mytracks an MyPlaces, and turn it off when app is closed.

Sleep - between 23.00 - 05.00, notify me its time to sleep, turn off wifi, and silent mode on.

Wired/Bluetooth headset connected - ask me if i want to start Mediascape or Spotify.

I always have Wifi on, except during sleep time.
So "Wifi Home Connected" connects automatically to my home network, i get a permanent "connected" notification in the bar, vibrates, turns off the keyguard pattern, set ringer and mediavolume, and shows a popup with a background-image of my livingroom, welcoming me home.

When i disconnect or get out of range, the keyguard pattern turns on, removes the "connected" notification, vibrates, change ringer and mediavolume, and shows a popup with an image stating time to go.

A widget-task that shows all currently active profiles in a text-popup, when tapped.

When i recieve a sms or mms from someone in my family, i have a voice saying
"You've just recieved a new message from your mother/father/sister". and "...from a favorite contact" when i get a message from a person in starred contacts.


Right now im working on delaying Wifi to on at boot time, until the screen is unlocked.

Have a few other ideas as well

I`ve made a system that turns wifi off when phone is locked, and turns wifi on when unlocked. But if i want to have wifi off, then it automaticly turns wifi on when i unlock it. I tought making it turn wifi on, and if no wifi near it would turn off. But i dont know how to do that, some help?

I've lost track of all the Tasker threads I've posted this in so sorry if it's a dupe. If you're creating location-based contexts then definitely read "Location Without Tears" on the Tasker site. Havy reliance on the GPS receiver will kill your battery regardless of what the app is.

I have a location-based context that uses the Cell Near state. It's a bit tricky to get working (you have to make sure you pick up enough towers) but consumes far less power than GPS and doesn't have the line-of-sight to GPS satellites requirement either.

There is also an app called "selective silence" on the market that works great to allow certain calls to always override silent mode.

I have a profile that when headset is plugged in, it turns on the phone, brings up the stock music player, sets the screen to half dim, and keeps it on (so I can flip songs). Then when I unplug the headset, it goes back to home screen and locks (everything back to normal). What I'm wanting to know is can you force the (stock) music player to start playing, and play all songs shuffled? I know there is a place for data and figure this possible but I wouldn't know what to put there to make it happen... I want it to do all that and just start playing music. Using the "play music" that tasker has in it already, doesn't give me any controls over the music once it's playing...

2) When I plug in my headphones, it plays the music app and pauses it when unplugging. This way when someone bugs me I unplug my headphones, then plug them back in to continue where I left off. Only problem is when plugging them in for the first time, it plays a random song. Haven't figured that out yet.

try creating another profile that will run when you run the app you're talking about.

in that profile, create a task that will generate a variable (set variable "reader = 1" or something, in the exit task set 'reader = 0'.

go back into the tasks that control the 3g/wifi on and add 'if reader = 0' to those so they won't run when 'reader' is on.

should work, but you get the idea, play around with it and i'm sure you'll figure it out, basically all you need to do (one of the ways) is create a variable like i just suggested

You probably don't need to do this with WiFi unless you've changed your WiFi sleep policy from the default setting.
