This android forum seems like the best around, so I figured I would ask my questions before you all get flooded with other noobs questions on Christmas :)

I will soon be getting the Droid for Christmas (Yes, I looked past the iDon't) and was wondering about a few things. I have tried to look around the forums already as much as I could but since I am a noob I couldnt figure a lot out.

1. First off when I get my Droid I want to root it. Seems simple enough- but if I mess up and "brick" my phone will I be able to get it working again? Such as pandora for a PSP, restoring for a iPod touch, or putting a new OS on a blackberry Storm (current phone). I have seen something called nandroid mentioned a few times. idk what that is or how to work it though.

2. Is the 2.1 Nexus port over worth it as of yet? I heard the major flaw is the hard keyboard lights not functioning. Also is it still rooted then?

3. Is there anything else off the top of your head to help me out with my first android phone?

Thank you for helping me out

Spend your first night with it in bed.....under the covers......naked if possible....Nah just kidding, you can wear your pajamas but just make sure to sleep with it. It makes the Droid's process of binding with your neural system a little easier.

Jokes aside, sorry I can't help with your other questions since I have avoided rooting my droid. I was going to mention some top apps you should get, but I figured like most people that you already have a list of 200 apps to get..... :D

Well heres my suggestion: Try out EVERYTHING! everyone's droid experience is different. I really wanted pandahome to work but in the end I swithed. Other people loved it and kept it because it caused them no problems. I really really wanted to keep home++ but it kept crashing on me and force closing. Other people love it and keep it permanently. I realized over time that my affinity for widgets led to high memory consumption which meant less memory for homescreen apps and thus force closing and constant crashing. But for me widgets are cooler than homescreen apps. Others dont use widgets for whatever reason. Nonetheless, my main point is download everything, try it out and junk it if you dont like it. There defintely are some common top 10 apps everyone can agree on, but there are some cool niche ones that you can only find out abt if you ask. Anyways, I will try to post my full app list here soon so you can benefit from it when you get your droid. Right now my sister highjacked my droid and hid it while its on silent mode. Luckily I downloaded an app that makes my droid scream even if its in silent mode :D
