Root So... I bricked My Zio...

while attempting to root my zio and possibly remove the cricket bloatware, i somehow bricked it. i read everything on the sanyo zio i could find on the interwebs and even discovered a few new things about the zio that i had previously not known :) however i was unable to fix it my self. :( :( i went to my local cricket store to see if i could get them to fix it but they told me to just go to the "Corporate Store". i went and they warrantied it out for $20 and i now have a new cricket zio. ( fortunately i use app brain and i had all my apps back in a matter of mins :) ) i now have a new problem...

for whatever reason every time i place or receive a call it automatically goes to speakerphone. and i am unable to shut the DAMND thing off! i was wondering if this may have anything to do with my apps. but all my apps are the same as what i had on my old zio and i didnt have this problem with it.

just to be sure i'm going to do a factory reset and re-install my apps one - by - one. to see if that fixes the problem. if any of you have had the same problem let me know, Please and thanks :)

update : I've done a factory reset and re installed my apps one bye one and still have the same problem :( idea really love some input on this. any one got some advice?

while i am glad that i am not the only one to have this problem, i am sad that other people are having the problem :( i still have not found a " setting" that would turn this on or off permanently. the closest i could find is an app that enables / disables the speaker. unfortunately when the phone sleeps the app shuts itself off :( Effectively providing a temporary fix. making you weary of answering the next call. im tying to find all the info i can on the zio and its programming of the speakerphone but im still new at this stuff so i don't really know what im doing. :p

im still looking for a fix for this but a temporary solution to this is to download " speaker " from the market, its a relatively small app, green circle with a silver speaker in the center. and be sure to to add it to the ignore list in app killer. otherwise the app will die when ur phone sleeps. i am so frustrated by this. i wish i had better news for everyone.

the search continues.

Ok, so with absolutely no help from the community i have stumbled upon the answer to my problem. according to all the "android" forums out there ( and the very few that actually knew anything useful about the zio ) it is a fairly common error that happens when cricket / sprint refurbs a phone. to fix this you need 3 things. 1 Your phone, 2 a usb cable ( like the one that comes with it ) and, 3 the SDK ( Software Developers Kit ) from Google. download and install the SDK and anything else that piques your interest in the Dev Kit then read up on the instructions on how to use it at

The Developer's Guide | Android Developers
*Note you can also find the dev kit within the link provided.

boot the phone into Fastboot by pressing and holding the red power/end button for 3 sec then press and hold the Green send button

open a command terminal in the sdk
of course you'll leave yout the "Quotes"
type "cd c:\android-sdk-windows"
then "cd tools"
then type "fastboot -w"
this seems to do a full factory reset rather than the "quick wipe" that the store does.

before you attempt this I recommend that you backup all your content on to your sdcard and your apps with appBrain or something similar.
