All this crap people talk about ATT but IMO thye are a good service and I have 0 problems, been waiting so long for some great Android phones and WOW! what a day! Moto Atrix FTW! Definitly my next phone! The Inspire and Infuse look good but Moto Atrix is just right, perfect screen size imo, great hardware, and the battery looks to be GREAT!

Now for a release date....

Agreed, AT&T service is best in my area too. I too am super glad that they released this.

While I love the hardware for the Atrix (dual core, 1GB RAM, super high resolution screen, ffc), I prefer HTC Sense (especially the new Sense which includes the free service that rival's Apple's MobileMe that costs) over MOTOBLUR (tho LauncherPro can fix that). If the Motorola phone had an unlocked bootloader, it would be an easy choice (as I would probably install Sense lol).

I'm really torn.

I would say the Moto as trust me I dont like any UI other then sense, but I have heard the new ADW EX is phenomenal. And as far as the bootloader to put Custom ROMS and such I think it will happen eventually, the folks at XDA always find a way and with these specs I assure you they will want to mess with it. As for the Infuse, it looks good but probably way to big for my tastes and I love the look of the Atrix. The Inspire looks good but if its really similar to the Desire HD that means the battery will suck, and the specs dont seem as high end, they should all be great though.

I disagree on the specs of the HTC not seeming high end. While the Motorola trumps it, it is still near the top IMO.

In terms of single-core processors, the new Qualcomm chips are really crushing the benchmarks plus overclockable up to speeds of 1.5GHz. And 768MB of RAM should be more than enough for the current versions of Android. Plus since the Desire HD is already out, I am hopeful that a 2.3 upgrade would be quickest on the Inspire.

As far as getting the bootloader unlocked, you may be right. But I think the ROM needs to be signed by Motorola tools. They have failed to get the bootloader unlocked for the Milestone which is over one year old (along with the Droid 2/Droid X/all those little Blur phones).

We'll see. Hopefully they all release soon so I can play around with both before making my decision. As of right now, leaning somewhat towards the HTC>

You know..

Your praising at&t right now for unreleased phone's and at&t has a track record of epic fail.

at&t has borked the majority of non iphone releases for the longest time now in terms of firmware updates.. That may be changing some on android..

But, people do have a reason to be highly unhappy with at&t :/

And there is still a bit of room for these things to go horribly, horribly wrong.

*Edit*...

I want to wait for the phone despite all the possible problems... but, I really don't want for it to get "post poned" until after the IP5 in june which could end up being my luck.. at&t is fickle ..

Should say Qx...

What does good customer service and no dropped calls have to do with shitty product support?

At&t does infact have a track record of screwing up updates.

Don't forget that at&t does have say in the OS as well... just because, you don't want to hold them responsible doesn't change the fact.

And this is something AT&T customers who have AT&T phone's have been complaining about at least since I got my e71x about 3 years ago :/

Oh FYI I am an at&t customer for the last 8 years at least, Never had a problem with dropped calls, and had my first phone for over 5 years.

Just because everyone gets mad at samsung, motorola and other manufacturers.. (rightly so because, they are the ones who have to tweak the OS)

Doesn't mean at&t and other carriers aren't also partly responsible for slow or non existant updates :/

If you think I am wrong.. feel free to go grab any android phone.. and look at the unremove-able bloat ware.

Hell go grab any smartphone and look at the crap you can't get rid of.

That right there is at&t's hand in the cookie jar.

And that is proof they have say in the OS itself. Do most carriers add bloat ware? not denying it! but, the fact is phones which are IDENTICAL literally.

Compare the OS of e71 to e71x and get an idea of what at&t does to things :/

That is the event I have most experience with but, others exist.

And FYI you called bs.. but, completely failed to address the main point I was making..

You have to remember that this announcement alone is a huge swing for AT&T. They need to release these phones in a timely manner as a self preservation strategy. It is very unlikely that they will keep iPhone exclusivity for the next release. Therefore, they need to be offering other phones in order to keep a growing their customer base.

While this is true and as much as I am being critical.

I would rather be HORRIBLY critical before this happens and be proven dead wrong.

I want at&t to prove me wrong.

But, considering the nature of this business.. paying lots of money and being stuck with devices for 2 years.

I would rather be cynical and proven wrong.. than to be optimistic and horrible disappointed.

If I am right and cynical.. then I won't even say "I told you so" only, "thats at&t for you".

with that said.. any ideas when atrix will be available I was looking on website and it said 'check availability" and I was like "if that means I can get it tomorrow.. I will have it tomorrow".

Which is a big statement considering how risky early adoption is..

Companies change and today is an example of this. You do pay a lot of money and are stuck with a device for two years but purchasing an outdated, bugy device, like you stated in other threads, does not seem wise. Yes, yes, AT&T has a bad track record but they do realize they must change and their keynote is, in my opinion, is an indicator of change. This isn't even being optimistic. It is more like being realistic. If the announcement today was for these Android phones with 4G LTE, I would agree with you. Basically, all AT&T did was announce new phones, one which is a screen increase and thickness decrease of the Galaxy S line, and the other a rebranding of the Desire HD, and rebranded their 3G to 4G because that is what T-Mobile did.

It may be a potentially buggy device but, I could root it and fix anything that bothers me about the phone within an hour.

Unlike a lot of people out there... I am not afraid to get my hands dirty.

We don't know how aggressive at&t is pushing to be with the bootloader on the atrix or htc phones. If I remember correctly the G2 will actually reflash to stock rom a phone that has been loaded a cooked driver.

While I do understand that realistically unless at&t pulls something fantastic out they are dead in the water..

Unfortunately.. dead in the water could be a possibility.

Unlike verizon who has had a strong droid line up for a long time. At&t has continually shafted android.

Just because they come out with something that might work for your average at&t user..

Doesn't mean your power droid users is going to be happy with it. AND we are assuming nothing is going to need fixing.

If at&t manages to screw up on a phone that can't be rooted easily.. we could all find ourselves in a nasty predicament.

Both are phones I wish I had the option of getting now..

I understand everyone's desire to look forward to new releases and get happy and caught up in speculation about the good.

But, there are always a lot of possible cons and unfortunately... in this industry... they manifest loudly when they do..

"OMG DUAL CORE PHONE!" becomes

"so.. I'm never getting a motorola phone again.. mine caught on fire and burned down my house and at&t charged me a 'warming feel' since they claimed it was the "house warmer app" which cost 150$ a second to warm my whole house which burned it down..."

Go ahead and do what you like. It may be easily rooted but I know of the numerous people who go and complain about a purchase they will be stuck with for two years. It is one thing to buy a phone with nothing on the horizon but when there are other, better things on that have just been announced, what's the point in buying something that is now old?

Because, a gamble is a gamble no matter what happens?

Old hardware, new hard ware.

I am probably just gunna sleep on it now..

Buying new hardware that may take months to get working properly or buying old hardware that is "outdated"

One advantage is at least the nexus S is still the dev phone.. so hummingbird is still standard..

I take it you've never heard if consumer reports or seen an att 3g coverage map then

I don't think you can really judge a carrier based on consumer reports. It is very area dependent. Where I am living, AT&T 3G is the fastest and dropped calls has never really been a problem for me.

you are totally correct. The problem is that people buy into this false stigma buy certain people in the medai and feed on it berating AT&T which happens to be the 2nd biggest carrier( only because verizon bought alltell they went to two) and keeps adding more subscribers every quarter than verizon and will surpass them again in mid 2011. Sure there are spots were people have issues but just like apples antennagate when it looked like everyone was pissed and it turned out to be less than 1 percent who returned there phone, people buy into the AT&T hype to much

While I do agree with you.

You still completely missed my point way up there.
