Root How to upgrade Huawei Ascend from 2.1 to 2.2???

Again, I agree. Nothing was there before and now something is there. This is on Metro.

I know the update will be delivered OTA or via a DL link.

You guy's stay up way to late for me. Lol.

I got my Accend just before Christmas, it had 2.1 installed. But within a week or two, I had an update, and now if you look in the settings it says: 2.1-update1

But, if I go to the storefront or whatever, the screen says Android 2.2 at the bottom.
So, I assume that this update was the 2.2 update, I'm just very new to the system and I guess no matter how much I update it will continue to say 2.1-update2,3,4,etc.

I did get this update in Settings, About Phone, Online Update. I occassionally check that and it lets you know if you are up to date.

If there are other ways to check this, etc. I would love to hear about them.

I also did clean up the phone a bit by doing a temp. Root (unrooted after reboot). But do not have it permanently rooted.

On a different topic(sorry, just while I'm here): Why leave it rooted all the time, when I can root, do what I like, then return to standard operation? I guess I need to learn more about it, but if someone understands my point....I'd appreciate the input...

The advantage of Permenant Root is that some of the App's I run require root access to run. Titanium Backup, Overclock Widget, Cache Cleaner and Cache Mate all require root access to run.

it is referring to the Android 2.1.1 update. Thats why your phone reads version 2.1.1 update-1.

I am with Cricket. I just checked my running services and I don't have that. I'm thinking it is preparing your phone for the 2.2 upgrade. If I were you I would put it on the charger but don't turn it off.

Update to previous response:

Just found out from another MetroPCS user that what you are seeing in running processes is a standard message. It's always there.

So....it's nothing to worry about. You'll know about the 2.2 for sure when it's available. How I don't know but I know you will.

The latest from Cricket: They don't know anything at all about the Ascend getting a 2.2 upgrade. The Zio is scheduled to upgrade to either 2.1 or 2.2 in the next couple of weeks.

That was straight from the horses mouth (Cricket's not mine LOL ) just a few minutes ago!

So....there ya have it folks. We can stop fidgeting now and just enjoy our phones. :D

It is not preparing. The update your phone was getting was not 2.2. It is 2.1.1 update-1, which is an update every ascend user gets when they use the phone for the first time

You don't have it because you already received the update , not the 2.2 update though , the update every ascend user gets when they use the phone for the first time . P.S. No phone prepares for any update

If you can get to the apk's and odex's, extract the sytem apps and copy them to /system/app. Don't quote me on this one since the huawei way is kind of new to me but, only removing sytem apps won't mess up the upgrade. It's havng custom roms signed with different keys than the original rom that block the upgrade.

i just got an Ascend for metro pcs for my girl and it was loaded w 2.1 but i wanna upgrade it to 2.2 hopefully ill b able to i surprised yours came w 2.2 already installed
