Best brightness app? InvisiBright Discussion

Ok, my friend just showed me this quirky app called InvisiBright and I feel like more people need to get in on this.

Long story short, its a one-function status bar shortcut (that's pushing it) which launches an invisible brightness control overlay. The idea is that you get quick brightness access from within any app AND you can see how the app looks under that new setting.

Besides the fact that it kills all purpose of the brightness slider in my Quick Settings app, I'm starting to like it. It's always right there for a 1 second adjustment that adds up to more battery life. I think of it as the closest thing to auto-brightness that isnt auto (auto wastes battery by using cpu).

What method do you use to keep brightness in check? Sure, this app is cute, but is it really the best option?

I use a combination of QuickSettings, Screen Filter, Fast Bright and Tasker.

Why would this benefit again? Or is this just something fun? Because if your phone is on autobrightness, it's basically doing the job for autobrightness.

So this sounds like a fun feature instead of something else. LoL!!

There are good reasons not to use autobrightness. Mainly, the process it uses to maintain a comfortable level uses extra battery. There are a ton of apps people use for brightness control (second post)
Even though nearly every device has autobrightness!

And lol back I wish I was the dev so I wouldn't be crying over this freakin cs assignment I just got I also don't know if its invisibright or the over/underclocking, but I haven't charged my dx in 30 hours and I'm still at 30% battery!

I don't mean just having it running obviously...

Now I adjust the brightness more often than with quick settings. I just keep it as low as possible for each app. I noticed the difference before underclocking when the screen is off - I got my first full day of heavy use. Using the combination of the two is perfect on my dx.

I actually am the dev and I've just added some cool features to the pro version like a search key hold shortcut. Now it's a two tap process to change the brightness from any app - nothing beats that! Just saw this application on a tech blog and I'm extremely interested in it. It is awesome, and streamlined and what I have been wanting for a while. I hate clunking through settings menus and I also hate preset widgets/shortcut cluttered homescreens. However I have a few questions.

I just want to verify, based on the market descriptions, the long press search key and invisible UI are only in the Pro version? So your video only advertises the pro version? How does the free version work/ what does it look like? (I don't install clutter unless I know beforehand what it does and why it is necessary)

Does this application always run in the background, or does the long press search key cold start and open the application? And is there a way to close it once it down fully until it is needed again? How heavy is it resources wise?

I don't purchase applications, but this possibly could be worth a rare purchase...

- The video does show the pro version. The free version does not include the search key hold feature and ONLY has an invisible UI. The pro version can be made invisible or translucent (with many color choices). A status bar shortcut must be used to open the UI in the free version.

- InvisiBright uses no background services. Triggering on the search key hold adds no extra work for the system. When you finish using the overlay, it closes itself down fully. Because the functionality/code is extremely simple, it uses no noticeable amount of resources.

Thank you for the awesome application and link. I've wanted the Samsung Touchwiz invisible notification bar brightness slider for a year or two, but this application you've made is even better.


Installed it and works flawlessly so far.
It does remain in the background and opens on start up, which I don't really like, but cached at 6.6MB and app data of only a few KB it is very light and simple like you are saying.

I will likely buy this in the future, and I'm the guy that hasn't bought a single application in my 2 years with Android. Definitely will recommend to others.

Sheeeesh, what do you guys do with your phones anyway?

I read a lot, and when you read at night, Autobrightness is a huge joke! Under energy-efficient night lighting (or no lighting for ebook reading), I find a brightness intensity level of more than 35-50 uncomfortable at best, while the lowest setting under Autobrightness is at least 100! It also has a bit of a wishy-washy side, causing it to frequently change when the light isn't changing! Needless to say, you really can save a lot of battery power while reading for an hour in an airport if you don't use Autobrightness! It can also reduce stress on your eyes if you run Navigation, or your music apps while driving at night. But that's not all, what about those ridiculously bright LED keys (Home, Menu, Back, and Search)? Do they ever burn energy!

I use Tasker for quick access to the brightness controls (you can create your own uber-quick widget menus for almost anything with this), but I also run AdjBrightness (which Tasker can easily be set to run when you boot your phone) for it's feature to shut these lights off (you need root for this).

I did discover a slight possible "bug", but it is not a big deal. I noticed when I very very slowly drag adjust the invisible brightness slider, after using the search key shortcut, that the lit capacitive buttons start to flicker. The flicker seems to coincide with the touch sensor or something.

It is totally not a big deal, and could just be my phone but I just wanted to make a little mention of it. If I was making an application I would want people to let me know things like that.
