Help "Low On Space"

I'm tired of seeing the "Low On Space" alert on my HTC Desire (running 2.2) & was wondering if there's any advice you guys can give me (apart from rooting the phone, as this is something I'm not tech-savvy enough to do)?

It's pretty frustrating to have a 32gig SD card, yet not being able to install new apps due to lack of space in the phone's internal memory.

I have an app that moves available apps from my phone memory to the SD, but still there seems to be way too many apps that can't be moved to clear space.

Is there any apps that can do this? Or any other ways to clear space?

Menu>applications>manage applications then go through each app and click on clear cache. If you were rooted there is an app that will do that for you every night. You can root your phone and still run your phone the exact way you do now. All it does is give you administrator like privileges. Example: your phone now is like a work computer that IT staff has locked down. Your home computer is like a rooted phone. You can change whatever you want to. Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks, mate. That cleared up a little space. Can I also press "clear data" in the same menu, or will this delete the app?

It's pretty annoying that I have only downloaded 20 apps & now I can't get anymore ... when I have like 25 gig free on the SD card O_O I thought Android phones were meant to be more open, yet I can't use all this free space ...

I don't think I could root my phone, I am no where near a computer/phone expert. I would totally do it, if I knew how.

The issue really is HTC not putting enough internal memory in, but goggles a2sd is still very limited

Download app 2 sd it notifies you of all apps that can be put on the SD card straight away and also clears all apps cache in one go after a week that could be about 5-10 mb

Have you identified which app is eating your memory?

How do you identify which applications are eating memory.

I use PimlicalA as my calendar; "Applications" shows storage as 840KB. However "Running Services" shows Calendar - Process: com.htc.bgp using 11MB of memory.

I have over 6000 entries in my PimlicalA calendar.

If using PimlicalA should com.htc.bgp be running?

I too would like more info on how to free up space. I've moved every app that I can to SD card and have also deleted all apps I can't move that I don't use or can do without but still get the low on space warning every single time I install an app.

It's getting to the stage where the phone is becoming unusable as I just can't install anything on it anymore.

Just uninstalled the Flash 10.1 upgrade and that really is the last thing I can get rid of. Anything else goes on there and I will have a phone that I can no longer install apps too. Great.

Its at that point that you have to start weighing up the pro's and con's of rooting versus not being able to use the phone how you want.
