I just got the Optimus V and it automatically puts all large apps on the SD card. If an app is on the SD, then my Optimus loses the icon after a reset. I have tried copying the files to and from the SD card and reformatting the SD card. It always works until a reset and then it is gone. So, it would appear that App to SD is not working for whatever reason. Am I the only one?

That's a new one by me in terms of automatically loading apps to the SD card. There are some ways to do that, but they require a fairly intricate set of commands, or a root. Was this a new phone or did you get it from someone else? There are a lot of App 2 SD applications around, but some only work properly with a rooted phone.

When you say reset are you referring to rebooting the phone or doing a factory reset? The apps2sd built into froyo does not just copy the apps to the SD, Android creates a secure mount on a portion of the SD card and then it installs the apps there. I have had no problems with my apps being there after a reboot. Have you waited a couple minutes after reboot to try to open the apps? Due to the way Android 2.2 does apps2sd the apps installed on the SD will not be available right after reboot, it takes a couple minutes. Also, when you mount the SD card on the computer the apps are no longer available as the SD card is no longer mounted by Android. You need to make sure you always properly mount and unmount the SD card in both Android and Windows or else the SD card will be corrupted.

I noticed the same thing.

This is my first android and I was wondering why some apps where accessible from the Launcher icon and other only from the market->my apps.

After a while I realized that some apps end on the phone and some on the SD. But those that land on the SD are not accessible from the Launcher icon.

Is this the normal behavior or am I missing something?

You have to make sure the phone's SD card has been unmounted from the PC and returned to the phone's control...then you'll see those card mounted apps. As in Turn Off USB Storage.

Thank you.

But I haven't removed the SD card from the phone.

Should I stick it in a PC mount/unmount and then try again?

No...the unmount procedure is one in the phone itself. Make sure the phone isn't connected to a PC. If you're still having issues with apps on the card not showing up, turn the phone off, then physically remove the card from the phone and reinsert it, making sure it's pushed back in all the way and locked. Then turn the phone back on.

It shouldn't be this hard to keep apps on the sd. Mine disappear eventually so I have to keep them all internal. Oh well. I am usimg a 16gb class 4 sandisk. Maybe that is the issue.

The phone's capable of handling up to a 32GB card...I'm using a 16GB Class 10 Wintec without issue, so far. You might want to reformat the card just in case.
