I have a HTC Desire an the Android version is 2.2 I want to root my phone because of its poor internal memory and i cant update any apps nor download any more apps. If I root my phone will the battery life improve as currently it is only lasting around 5 hours per day so I have to charge it through the night. How easy is it to root a phone, ive been researching this for a few hours now and it still doesnt make much sense to me haha. I have also read the Rooting FAQ on this forum and it says about rooting a radio and that it can permantly brick your phone. Do I have to root the radio and if not how do I not root it haha. Thanks

it says about flashing a radio, you cant root a radio. And it also says you dont need to flash a radio.

The FAQ takes a few reads. Read it a few more times and the more you read it, the more it will make sense.

Rooting alone will not save battery life. All rooting is, is super user access.

if you flash a custom rom with an undervolted kernel, then yes, you will save battery.

Lol, I have no idea what to do. I have re-read the FAQ and i still dont really get it haha. Would this be right if I was to do the following:
  • Download unrEVOked3
  • Install hboot driver and restart my phone
  • Open reflash-bundle.exe and install it
  • Go to unrevoked
  • Enable USB Debugging on my HTC Desire
  • Connect phone to computer
  • Run Reflash
I basically just copied the following from a tutorial from the FAQ, so if I do all the following above my phone would be rooted? Noob to this kind of stuff as you can tell :D

best to do the goldcard. Follow the link in my rooting faq. I just made one now. Its so easy, it took 2 minutes.

Ill do that now, then root then. Just to be sure, as my phone is a contract phone, it won't affect my phone in anyway will it i.e I will stop getting texts, minutes and/or internet?

EDIT: Do I have to downgrade also once I have a Goldcard?
