sync is the battery user

Hi, I am a university teacher in Dallas, Tx, at the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics. I love this forum. It is great that you people are willing to experiment and I can learn from you. I have learned only one thing important, but if you look it is already on this forum somewhere. the thing that most sucks batteries dry is autosync. In particular, google sync (I was using ONLY the calendar) and Facebook do this. The default settings seem to be almost a continuous sync. My phone stayed quite warm sitting on my desk, and I was having to charge it several times a day. Now I turn sync for those apps only when I want to sync. Result: the phone will last a couple of days with quite a lot of usage, both talk and internet (both via the phone and via wifi.) I haven't learned how to set sync intervals on either app, so manually turning it on and off is my method. On the home screen, press menu >> settings >> accounts and sync. Then click to toggle the ones you want.

I didn't know the autosync used battery power like this. I do know weather apps and animations will. I have Tasker. I may go on and set up a profile for this to see if it makes a difference.

I didn't think it made that much of a difference until I made the profile and saw my battery life increase. It makes more ofs a difference than you would think.

I use weather bug elite, but it only syncs every 6 hours.
