I called one Verizon store in the Boston area and was told "It won't be released until summertime, that's the newest rumor". I had to bite back the words "You're a useless idiot" before I mumbled 'thanks' and hung up.

I then called another area store and the woman answered with a frustrated "I don't know! I wish I did!!!" and we both burst out laughing.

The moral of this story for Verizon employees: Don't make crap up if you have no idea, just say you don't know. Otherwise you will just sound ridiculous.

Which stores did you call? I am in the Boston area as well.

I've talked to reps in three different stores over the last few weeks. I first went to the two Verizon corporate stores and they had absolutely no idea. One guy watches forums like these and gathers info from there. The lady at the other one seemed to care less and barely knew about the phone.

Next, I went into a different Verizon retailer called Z Wireless. They were much more friendly and helpful. Both had heard the rumors of the phone being released on the 24th. Neither one has seen a single email about a release date, nor any word of delays. (Obviously, because they haven't even received a release date in the first place).

So all I can say is no one really knows anything for certain when it comes to Verizon stores. But at least some of the retailers can be friendly and help as much as they can with their limited information.

The Washington St. store is huge, so I'm surprised that someone there gave that ridiculous response, it wasn't like I was calling some teeny store 50 miles out from Boston.

For what it's worth, the VZ store in South Arlington (TX) told me at noon today that it would be available on the 28th. They were all on the same page about this and took my info.

I just registered to post this after lurking for the past couple of weeks looking for info. This has gotten ridiculous. Not as ridiculous as my BB Storm 1 that's about to get put down, but close.

I went into the store in Everett, over by Target and Rt. 16, not sure if you are familar with that area or not. Lady didn't pretend to have any answers, but did indicate that it would probably be sooner than later. Go figure.

I stopped by my local store today (Concord NC) and asked for a release date. The nice lady there told me she received an email today that said they should be in on Monday, 2/28. While I was in the store two other customers stopped by to ask the same question.

At this point seeing is believing everything else is just a rumor.

Verizon called me, because I filled out a survey stating I was unhappy. I mentioned the ATrix lol. The asst. manager stated that she wants it too and that she knows it got pushed back twice. Just to be patient and to expect it sooner rather than later.

I went into verizon yesterday myself and asked about the release date and two reps both said the 28th simultaneously... Then I went on to look at the zoom and its pretty nice. Think I might pick it up tomorrow...

Me: "Hey, I was just wondering if you had heard anything about the Thunderbolt being released Monday possibly?"
VZ: "hmmm, I have not heard a definite release date yet"

Knoxville, TN (North Location)
Me: "Hey, have you all heard anything about the release of the Thunderbolt?"
VZW: "The latest word we have heard is that they are trying to get Skype to work perfectly when it launches so that is why it keeps getting pushed back. We have no release date information."

Knoxville, TN (Turkey Creek Location)
Me: "I was wondering if you all had heard anything about the Thunderbolt release?"
VZW: "No sir, we have not received any further information."

Sevierville, TN
Me: "Have you all received any information on the Thunderbolt release?"
VZW: "No, unfortunately we have not. There have been tons of people calling in to ask about it and I wish I knew when it was coming out myself. It keeps being pushed back and we have not received any in or heard any word about the launch."

Kingsport, TN
Me: "Have you all heard anything about the Thunderbolt release date?"
VZW: "No sir, I wish they would hurry up and tell us though."

Greeneville, TN
Me: "Have you all received any information about the Thunderbolt release date?"
VZW: "Last thing I had heard is that it is going to be the 28th."
Me: "When was the last time you received an update on it?"
VZW: "That was what we heard this morning".


I typed each of these out right after I got off the phone with each store so they are word for word what was said. Looks like nobody knows what is going on.

Talked to Verizon rep in Billings, MT earlier today about the Thunderbird. They said that tomorrow is definitely not the launch date. However, they have trained on the phone, so this normally means a launch date is only a "couple of weeks" away.

The reps stressed the big deal about LTE, and how that, even when it's not available in Montana, it will still make things go very fast.

I am currently using the Magenta Network in Montana, where it is in roaming mode, and internet speeds are slow. I told them that I want to switch, but only after the Thunderbolt is released. I ended the convo by saying, "I'm ready when you're ready".

for what it's worth... which is probably nothing, i just called my 3 nearest stores to inquire.

store 1: "we have no information on the release date"
store 2: "we should have it tomorrow, but call around noon to make sure"
store 3: " it was supposed to be tomorrow, but it has been delayed. the release looks to be a week from tomorrow at the latest."

this is insanity! if VZW doesn't want to give info directly to end users, that is one thing, but it seems to me that you would absolutely want to keep your own employees in the loop. how can 3 stores, less than 20 miles apart, have 3 completely different answers? that is seriously a good way to upset some customers who are not as patient as i am.
