Root Tried to root my EVO. really need some help.

I tried to root my evo today. not i can only get into recovery. when recovery starts it tries to run hboot. but can't find the .zip file i put on. it can't find any of the img files put on the sdcard, then goes to the next screen and says:

so at this point. i have no idea what i need to do. i've seen a few people with similar problems but not quite like this. i would like to have the phone rooted. if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated!

i should mention that i didn't do a backup. i tried but it didn't work. not sure why...

you still have s-on which means are not rooted yet. have you followed the rooting for dummies guide?

That's hboot you're going to, not recovery. I'm going to guess you haven't gotten as far as recovery yet, depending on what you're exactly trying to do. That being said, what root method is this that you're trying to do? Are you still able to boot up normally?

this is the guide i followed:

i'm not sure if i'm using the wrong firmware or what. but i'll try to turn the s-on to s-off. it won't boot up at all. it just does the "htc EVO 4G" screen. just keeps looping it. sometimes it will go to the red triangle screen but nothing else unless i hold the volume down and power.

Do you have the PC36IMG.zip on the root of your sdcard? Also, if you do - check and make sure it isn't named PC36IMG.zip.zip - Several people have had that issue.

there are 2 files on my sdcard, one called PC36IMG-ENG.zip and one called PC36IMG-MR.zip. (both only 1 .zip)

When i turn my phone on in HBOOT mode with the sdcard in it says it's looking for PC36IMGDAIG.zip.

Ok, would have been easier if you didn't try unrevoked 3, but let's see if this works. Somehow on the original tutorial you were following, it looks like step six didn't go like it should.
You need to rename the PC36IMG-ENG.zip to PC36IMG.zip
Now, click the link to this guide: [ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - Goodbye Stranger - Upd. 02.25.11 - xda-developers
Start at step 9 and continue. (basically the same guide, but I know it works)

Here's why:

adb push pc36img/PC36IMG-ENG.zip /sdcard/PC36IMG.zip

You were supposed to name that file PC36IMG.zip when you copied it. Are you currently able to boot up or not?
