droid 2 a decent alternative to the thunderbolt?

alright guys well as of yesterday I am able to upgrade my phone. based on everything I have read on the tb it looks like an amazing phone, but with no official release date in sight I am getting antsy. this is going to be my first smart phone so I am extremely excited, and I honestly just do not want to wait anymore.

so my question is will a one year contract on the droid 2 global hold me over well enough? this question is based on the possibility that the tb may not come out before my 14 day return is up

if the tb happened to come out before before my 14 day return is up would I have to pay a restocking fee to swap for the tb?


I am looking for other peoples opinions who are as excited as me for the thunderbolt, which is why I chose this forum

I am in the same boat. I took a chance Friday, 02-25, and got a DINC bc i was tired of being told one more week by verizon. So I just took the DINC. I am hoping it does come out within 14 days bc i will pay the restocking fee for the upgrade to the TB

But I feel ya, I was getting too antsy myself just reading about it. It was time for something new, so I jumped. Hopefully it will make it out before March. 11 if not, I still have an awesome phone.

The D2 is just the D1 with a different bezel, new keyboard, and a global antenna. I can tell you right now, everyone on here thinks that the Dinc is the best phone out there. I dont own one but I have talked to enough people on here.

Then you'd have to pay $750 for the TB since it's not a new contract. No. If you just change phones, you will keep the same contract. They don't scratch the whole thing and start over. And if you return your phone within the 30days (14 days at verizon) you get a new phone at contract price (249.99 or 299.99 for the thunderbolt).

I am in no way affiliated with Verizon or Best Buy other than being a loyal customer so make sure to confirm that all with the sales rep when you go in before purchasing.

if you return the phone in the 14 day time period at verizon then all you do is pay the difference between the phones+restocking fee. you still get the discounted price on what ever 2nd phone you get

well I just happened upon the new thread where the black man x guy supposedly leaked info that the tb is being shipped. If there is not an official release given tomorrow I am going to pick up the DINC

I would try to wait. But if you can't, I would look at getting the HTC Droid Incredible to tide you over. It will not be very expensive, so the restocking fee will be less. The incredible will be very close in function to the TB; so you will actually be getting used to the TB while using the Incredible. And the Incredible is a great phone if you some how get stuck with.

Verizon doesn't charge a restocking fee based on the price. It is $35 for all phones. I'm considering doing this but I am afraid of two things, one, I damage the phone too much for them to take it back, or two, the bolt isn't released within the return period.

I just picked up the Droid X at VZ. They promised me I would have no problem exchanging it for the Thunderbolt within the 14 day return period. The cost will be $35.

The Droid Incredible is a fantastic phone. If you're a heavy user, the extended battery solves all problems and the phone is still reasonably small. My experience with Motorola was good but I always hated the interface.

I own an INC and I love it. As I've stated a lot on these boards, the only reason I am drooling over the Bolt is because I'm a crack-head for gadgets and my wife was looking into getting the INC because she liked mine so much. I told her she could have mine and I would take her upgrade. Since she's not a geek, she thinks it is a fantastic deal, because I have to use my spending money (when you're old you just name things differently...it isn't an allowance anymore, it is called "spending money") and she gets a phone that is practically brand new, because I treat my stuff like gold. So, back to my point, the INC is a great phone, no doubt. I purchased an external charger and an additional battery from SEIDIO and while I'm using one battery I charge the other. Then after work I swap it out and charge the other one up for morning. This way, my phone is never being charges, just the batteries and I NEVER have to worry about juice. If you can't wait, go with the INC; you'll love it.
