What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

I think there is signal percent context you can use?

If signal is less than x% then, turn on Airplane mode (turn off Background/Data sync, etc.), or something like that? Use a time context, too, so it doesn't airplane on you during the workday...I'm assuming your games are after work hours :)

Quite correct, in system variables:

From userguide

Code:
Cell Signal Strength (dynamic,monitored)
%CELLSIG

The current phone signal level from 0-8 inclusive on a rougly linear scale. On some CDMA phones, the level will rise in steps of 2 (0,2,4,6,8). The value is -1 if the value is unknown or there is e.g. no service.
There is a bug with some Android versions that the reported signal strength is not updated until the device is turned off and on.
Cell Service State (dynamic,monitored)
%CELLSRV
The current phone service state. One of unknown, service, noservice, emergency, nopower.

Actually, this raises another question for me. If it's in airplane mode, does it completely cease looking for a signal? Probably means I've got to manually reconnect if I need to make a call, as opposed to having it automatically kick back on once I'm in an area with stronger service, right (because the phone would have no way of knowing)?

Last year, I noticed that any time I went to a baseball game, my battery would just plummet and the phone would get hot, which I guess means it was working overdrive to get data or something. Anyone have any suggestions for a profile that would tell my phone to chill out and relax when I'm at the game? My knee jerk reaction would be to incorporate some sort of location based context, but because of other profiles I have set up, my GPS is only turned on when I need it, and I'm not sure network-based location would be precise enough.

Thoughts?

When you are there are you within range of a wifi network? You could set up a profile using a wifi near context.

I've not tried anything like this myself, but there's a useful discussion here (Tasker user group) that may have some handy tips for you.

No, unfortunately you can't do "or" contexts. Duplicate the profile and change the context to received sms.

And note that when you put a task into a profile, you aren't duplicating the task. You are simply "referencing" that task. To use a task with a different sent message create a new task for the sms received profile.

I have a profile set up that might help.

What it does is basically this:

if signal strength drops below a chosen level, it will wait for 2 minutes, check again and if it is still below that level it will turn airplane mode on. It will then switch airplane mode off every 15 minutes to check for a signal, if the signal strentgh is acceptable it switches airplane mode off, if it isn't it switches it back on and waits another 15 minutes before checking again.

I set it up because the signal strength at my gym is terrible and would lose a lot of battery while i was there.

edit: i can help you set it up if you can't work it out, but send me a pm if i don't reply :)

That sounds like just what the doctor ordered. I think I can figure that out, but if not, I'll hit you up. Thanks!

i have simple ones. only had the app for two days now.

it reads text while driving. name and body, then send text to sender sayin im driving please call me.
it auto answers calls while driving and starts speaker phone for hands free.
it sends auto text on birthdays (never forget girlfriends b day again)
notification when battery gets to 5% (workin on making this shut things down and save more battery) (also it gives notice on the up charge from 4 to 5%. how do i stop this?):D

i have a few questions.
under misc. there is option for run script. how do u make a script? where do you make them?
i read the help and its not mentioned anywhere.

To stop the notification of your 5% charge profile, add a second context to your profile for State > Power, and check the Invert box. Now your profile would read "notify me at 5% when not charging".

To use the scripting you are talking about, you will need to install and use a couple of other apps. To find out more, read this wiki page which explains it fairly well: Using SL4A with Tasker - Tasker Wiki

I was writing on saving battery power and thought of something. I don't know why it wouldn't work. I have a home profile that uses Wifi when I'm here. So I don't need GPS, my autosync polls once an hour and I don't need 3G.

I'm about to make a profile that turns off 3G while I'm home or connected to Wifi when I'm at a restaurant where I connect.

The Tasker wiki page has info on making Toggle Widgets for certain things. I use one for Rotate, to kill 3G, sleep, flight mode, etc. I find the toggles alone worth almost as much as the profiles.

Trying to create a profile here based on which wireless network I'm connected too. So far I have a work one

Wifi Near - SSID and Toggle (guessing this will toggle on and off wifi and it picks up my work SSID then action of WiFi Set on)

Not sure how to set this to off. Again guessing I need a toggle and if I'm not near that SSID then switch off but not sure where to enter this.

Theory is then I will have exactly the same for home detecting my home SSID and again to turn off when I leave home

I have a few:
R1.jpg

1) Carmode : says my text message to me sender and body

2)launch GPS for a few apps.

3)headset plugged in launches pandora

4) Battery level at 20% it states to plug in the charger and plays imperial march

5) I also have one that i helped a person with that changes the wallpaper every couple of hours but i disabled it.

6) a demo I created and posted on youtube (I also posted here once before) - to show newbies what tasker is...

YouTube - Tasker_vid.3gp

I use absolutely the same

Thanks for all the great ideas and help in this thread. I've just recently started using Tasker again after not realizing its full potential a few months ago, and this thread was instrumental to helping that happen.

Two quick questions that I've searched for here and elsewhere and either overlooked or haven't found:

1. Is there an easy way to set the alarm time each day? I travel for business and each day may require a different wake up time. Is there an easy way to turn the alarm on AND select a time for it to go off?

2. Is there a way to customize what happens when I select an icon in the notification bar?

Stuarta, here's what I found works. You can just create two, one for word SSID, and one for home.

I use two profiles back-to-back, which seems to work the best. The first is labeled "Wifi Near Home".

Context = Wifi Near (home SSID). Make sure the Toggle Wifi option is checked. Task is "Set Wifi On". That's it for that one.

The second profile is Wifi Connected, with the context of Wifi Connected to home SSID. Task is a two stage one, first being "Wifi Set to on", the secong being "Variable Set %HOMEWIFI to 1"

The exit task is a three-staged one. First stage is "Variable Clear %HOMEWIFI". The second stage is "Wait 5 minutes", and the third is "Wifi set to Off".

The first profile looks for your home wifi, and the second connects to it when it's found (otherwise the first profile will find your home wifi, but not stay connected). The second profile is designed to not turn off wifi until five minutes after you loose your connection (so it doesn't drop it if you run out to your car or something).

You could actually just make two copies of the first profile, one with work SSID and one with home, and then don't specify the networks in the second profile, and it should work for both.

I'm dying to know how to do this!

I'm new to Android (Atrix) and Tasker. I have been on Windows Mobile for years and am trying to repeat some of the functionality I had.

I have been reading all kinds of posts here, but must admit I'm pretty lost on Tasker.

What I need to do is change the SMS tone and make sure the phone isn't silent or on vibrate when plugged into AC.

When it's plugged into AC at night I use a very loud, annoying SMS tone to make sure it wakes me up at night, and then repeat that reminder every 5 minutes until I read the SMS.

In addition, if the phone is on vibrate or silent, I need to cancel that and set the ring volume to the loudest.

Is this something that's relatively straightforward with Tasker or is there an app that will do this?

I have found some apps and they change all the notifications (calendar reminder, etc.) not just the SMS tone. I would like to change just the SMS tone.

Any input would be appreciated.
