Root apk or data

I am a day and a half in to rooting of my phone am so great full all you guruooooooosss are here... thanks for your help..... got a question.. When Creating a app backup with back up pro. I get asked "What type of backup?" option 1. apk's 2. Data 3. both. what one do i select and WHY. I ask why cause at some point I would like to fully understand everything. thanks again

Is asking you if you would like to back up just your apps (apk), data, or apps (apk) and data. Back up both. When it's time to do some restoring, you will know what to restore -- apps, data, or both.

Generally speaking I agree and do both (with titanium backup). However there are times when it can help to just backup and restore apks and not data. If you are experiencing a battery problem etc and want to wipe your phone, you may restore the problem when you restore all apps and data.

I generally only restore data on apks where I specifically need the data saved...like games. Otherwise, I prefer to get as clean as of install as possible.
