everyone keeps telling me i should root my droid cause of all the amazing things it does. so i did. but now that its rooted the only thing i can find to do is to update to 2.1. while its nice and all, where are all the cool apps n games that i keep hearing about??? any help??? please!!!

your rooted droid is as good as a non rooted droid friend. or even a bricked droid....

i kid, i kid :D I'm not trying to hate on rooters, in fact i kinda envy you guys. But yea there are some root only apps on the market and web for adding more customization and functionality.

As for games.........I have not heard of any root only games but maybe one of the rooting brothers knows more.

oh i didn't know for sure about the games but thought i would cover it. anyway, i know that there are some root only apps out there cause everyone tells me about them. the problem is i don't know what they are called or how to get them. i tried google but all it shows is wifi tethering and i don't really need that cause it drains the battery so fast i just have to plug it in anyway.

I don't think any game should ever require root access.

As to what you can do, you can:

-load new ROMS
-remove apps not often used (Email, CorpCal, AmazonMP3, etc)
-change notification bar and shade color
-wireless tether
-drocap2 for screen capture
-AdFree to remove ads from the browser and apps
-install custom recovery image

and there's a lot more, but those are the ones that pop up off the top of my head.

i don't think there are any roms out for droid right now.

haha, quite the contrary. There are too many ROMs for the Droid right now that do practically the same thing.

still, I'm running a VERY good one that is 2.0.1 w/ all the 2.1 apps, and it's been optimized to run using less memory.

My Droid feels like a brand new phone because everything I do is instant. If you're interested, you should hit up alldroid.org to find out more.

I know you posted it in another thread, but could you remind us which one you're running and any special tweaks or settings? i'd like to get a faster phone with 2.1 on it :D

I'm now running birdman's 2.0.1 w/ 2.1 apps and MT browser. It has been optimized to reduce the size of the PNG files used in all the apps in the OS (along with other optimizations that I don't know of). It's really, really fast.

If you're running 2.0.1, you can just flash this over yours and it will keep everything.

If you're running 2.1, then you'll have to wipe your data and cache.

Oops, I should add that this keeps the 2.0.1 launcher (app drawer vs. star wars), but has 5 homescreens. This is MUCH faster than the 2.1 launcher.
