Not-So Overnight Shipping

I don't really get it. I ordered my Nexus One last night around 6:00pm and did Overnight shipping. My order has been confirmed, but for some reason my package is expected to arrive on Monday, January 11th. I know I'm not the smartest person, but wouldn't overnight mean that the package would arrive today?

Has anyone else experienced this crazy shipping bullshit?

I ordered this morning at 5:00 am Arizona time... and got my shipping email. By 3:00pm tomorrow.

I work in eDiscovery and have to ship DVDs/hard drives to clients all the time and am familiar with shipping delays/deadlines/etc. 6:00PM probably missed the overnight cutoff for next day with FedEx, and overnight would not likely be available unless a special courier was used (Axis, etc.). Anything that leaves on a Friday for "overnight" delivery will not arrive until Monday, unless special "Saturday delivery" is chosen.

Basically your order hit at a bad time.

Yeah true that. I ordered on 1:00PM Tuesday and didn't get mine until Thursday. Google is probably being railed with orders as well.

Sucks that you have to wait until Monday, though. I've been there

I know Fed Ex reported all sorts of delays due to inclement weather, so that's potenitally another factor in this.

Exactly.

6pm is the latest drop-off time available for any FedEx Express item that I am aware of (my company ships via FedEx Express).

Even if the order was made slightly before 6pm, there is almost no possibility that it could be filled, shipped & scanned before the 6pm cut off.

I'm surprised there's no Saturday delivery though. We get shipments from FedEx and UPS on Saturday's at the store I work at. Oh well. What's another two days?

There is Saturday delivery but Saturday delivery has to be explicitly requested.

Same thing with mine, ordered mine around 5:30 PM yesterday, got a your phone has shipped email at 1:30 PM today, It say mine won't be here in Portland till monday, I was banking on a saturday delivery. bummer......

I think this launch has been less than stellar but complaining about something that is common sense is just annoying the heck out of me.

PEOPLE needs to learn about SHIPPING time vs HANDLING time... Handling time is how long until the product is PICKED UP by FedEx and SHIPPING time is how long that the package is in transit with FedEx. When Google said it's overnight SHIPPING, what they mean is that "Once the package is PICKED UP BY FEDEX, it will take 1 day to reach your home barring unforseen circumstances like you're not at home or weather condition during winter". Now, what they don't say in the "overnight" shipping is how long is the product being PICKED UP from the time of your order. That usually requires 0-2 business days depending on the business

I purchased my Nexus One on the 5th at 7pm obviously with overnight shipping. But at least I realized that it did NOT ship on the 5th because it's already 7pm... Now, it shipped on the 6th which means I should get the unit on the 7th becuase 6+1 = 7... and sure it was there on the 7th. Unfortunately, many people failed to realize this the OP looks like from Glendale as well which means it's on Pacific time whereas the unit ships from Indianapolis with Eastern time which means 3 hours ahead (9pm Eastern when he ordered) and there is NO way in hell his phone would ship on the 7th. Now that we established that, 8th is Friday + 1 business day = Monday?? Sounds right to me

I love how people are so quick to complain about FREE overnight not working properly. This is something you should have expected when you bought a phone that was a trending topic on twitter and made national news. Not to mention the weather in that part of the country succccckkkkkkks right now.

I ran into the same problem - I ordered my phone at 2 p.m. on Thursday morning, and it won't be here until Monday by 3:00 p.m. I could have driven to Indianapolis, picked it up myself, and gotten back in the time it took FedEx to go pick my package up. Granted, it wouldn't have been free, but still.

As far as poking fun at people who are complaining that the "free overnight shipping" they were promised isn't working out, don't forget that we just shelled out $530 for an phone with the (very reasonable) expectation that it would get to us the very next day. Obviously no one's going to cancel their order over it, but you can't blame us for being a little bit impatient.

Eh I understand you're impatient but just gotta understand that there's difference between shipping time and handling time

I experienced this first hand as company that I work at won't ship until 1-2 business days in addition to the shipping time. So many people asking why they didn't get it on the 3rd day when they're using ground shipping... well because the 3rd day after the order is the day that the shipper (UPS/FedEx) picked up the goods

Otherwise, to see it in a different light, I'm sure people will be very excited once they receive the product

PS: Where are you located at? close to Indy? I used to go to college a couple hrs away from Indy

Believe me, I am well aware of the difference. In this case, it was not the distributor lagging. Google sent me tracking info at 3 p.m. on Thursday, and FedEx didn't pick it up from the facility until that time a full day later. I am not sweating it. It's going to come, and I'm sure I'm going to love it like it's my own child when it does.

It goes beyond my impatience at this point. SOMEBODY (probably Google) is eating the cost of an overnight delivery that isn't happening, which will be passed on to the consumer somewhere down the line. That's definitely not okay.
