Safe to say Hero=Failure

Look at all the negative feedback on this phone. Before AND after the supposed "fix it" update. Just seems like the negs outweigh the positives for this phone. Don't get me wrong i like what the potential is, but until this phone is free of Lag, bugs, video (youtube) problems and flash disappointments it simply fails to deliver what it claims to have. I will call it a lifesaver at work b/c I can listen to ESPN radio w/ the ESPN radio android app. So I refuse to return it.

I don't see how it could be considered a failure based on your comments above. It still does more than most phones on the market. No phones are perfect, and neither is the Hero. I don't see how that makes it a failure.

the negatives will ALWAYS outweigh the positives, because those are the people who are vocal. However, when you compare it to other similar android phones, the Hero is the best.

Not sure what it fails to deliver for you, but most people seem to have little to no problems with this phone, especially compared to others.

yes the phone has a few problems, many phones do. But I can tell you that this phone has done wonders for me, I remember I was going to get a Pre..but for some reason I held myself back and didn't get it. I bought the HTC Touch Pro 2, good phone. But the fact that it's not a droid phone, I gave it to my sister and got the HTC Hero instead. And it's a great phone though...

Then again, I only paid 150 for the HTC Touch Pro 2 and 100 for the HTC Hero, both were brand new out the box!

People here coming looking for help with problems that we can either fix or its a hardware problem and they need to return it. I think you are looking for an excuse and some folks to jump on your troll wagon. Why you ask because no one comes in here with a statement like that and says "I was just curous if anyone else mirrored my sentiments. If your sad with your phone go return it and buy a perfect phone. Have fun with that and good day to you.

From my experience of browsing forums and the internet in general, EVERYTHING has more Negatives than Positives on the internet. I research every major purchase before hand, and every product out there has a complaint thread, RipOffReport, or something. I am not surprised that this particular section of the forum has many issues, because people that have issues need help, and they come here. Others just like to rant, but thats another story.

I guess the logic is that if your product was working fine, you wouldnt go out of your way to register on a forum just to tell a bunch of people about it.

Moral, ehhh I walked away and came back, I forgot what i was talking about.......

@ssman....have u tried any other Android phones? If not....then I don't believe you are "Qualified" to make that statement. Take it from someone who just made the switch from the Moment....the Hero worked much better for my needs and is certainly not viewed as a "failure". To each their own....

As the other posters have mentioned....you typically only hear about the negatives.

Lets all start a post called..."What I like about my hero". If we had the users weight the positives against the negatives, I don't believe the final outcome would be considered a failure.

Just my 3 cents.

I switched from the Moment to the Hero. The Moment may look better on paper with the better processor, but in my experience the runs better. Sense UI is such a great extra touch. I don't have other Android phones to compare it to other than the Moment. Coming from the Blackberry (World Edition, Curve, Tour)...it is the best phone I've owned. Hands down. I have heard a lot of people talk about how Android misses the boat on being a "smart phone" but I really don't get that argument.

Haha, I've been back and forth with numus on that one over in the Moment forum. Don't get me wrong...the Moment is a good phone. But in my experience, the Hero operates so much better...especially with Fresh running on it.

Think of it this way: The iPhone evolved into the iPhone 3Gs and will continue to evolve. Meanwhile, the HTC Hero is already dead. It will evolve into nothing because it was just a stopgap product as HTC tries to come up with a product that can compete with the iPhone.

2. The Hero was not a stand-out in sales
3. The Hero won't receive any real updates because it is a 1st generation Android phone that cannot hack android 2.1 according to HTCSource: "Due to 3D issues it sounds like 1st gen android phones will not get android 2.1"
4. While sense may evolve to get rid of its ergonomic failures, we will never see it on the Hero

All HTC is doing is throwing poop at a wall to see what sticks. They are just building "novelties" as they search aimlessly (they are throwing poop at the wall with a blindfold) for a successful competitor for the iphone. When some HTC phone becomes successful SALES standout they will take that phone and re-refine it as a flagship phone.

I know it had problems and still does, the difference is that they had/have a product that was/is worth continuing development on... There won't be another Hero v2, just another random piece of flying poop HTC hopes will stick...

As for first generation... Google is porting maps navigation back to 1.6, so phones that run 1.6 must still be relevant. Last time I checked my phone it said firmware revision 1.5

It is firmware version 1.5, yes. However, it has already been confirmed by HTC and Sprint that 2.1 IS coming to the Hero.

I don't have the link, no. It was on HTC's twitter, and Sprint's. Chances are it'd be a download from the internet and flashed from your computer, or at a Sprint store (from the reports I've read). They said first half 2010, hopefully to cover their asses in case of a major delay.

I want to return my wife and I do not want to pay for my children repairs, they just don't work, they are flawed! However I will not get rid of my HTC Hero with or without flaws, it is much easier to just ask how to fix it and in the process learn something new. Now about my wife well, lets just say that I love her too almost as much as my phone and my children will fix them selfs with time (or at least I can hope)

If HTC just named all their phones some variety of Hero, as Apple does with the iPhone, would you consider it a success? What if the Nexus One was called the Hero 3Gs? I think the only brand name they're trying to establish is HTC, and if you look where that company was a year ago in America I would say they have been quite successful.

In fact I think if there were any reason to call the Hero a flop, it would be that it's hidden on Sprint, who continue to push the god awful Pre.
