Galaxy S2 on Telus / bought off eBay

I've never made an eBay purchase larger than maybe $150 in the past, but I bit the bullet on this one. Paid $800 and change for it. Unlocked.

So I'm HOPING it will work with Telus. I'm told Telus uses 850/1900 bands, and that the S2 supports it. But I read on multiple sites that it will work on pretty much any carrier in the world except for T-Mobile

My current phone, believe it or not, is still a Motorola Droid (Milestone). I was very happy to FINALLY get Android 2.2 (apps to SD card!!) but the sad truth is there's a lot of lag on the phone. Motorola Droid -> Samsung Galaxy S2 will be a BIG upgrade.

EBay listing here

I hoping VERY much that 1: the seller is trustworthy - the feedback seems to say so. 2: that the phone will WORK. I'm not a big fan of ordering outside of the country, because if for any reason there's a problem, and the seller wants to basically just say "tough poo... I'm not letting you return it", then there's nothing I can do.

I guess basically the reason for this post is I'm looking for some re-assurance that all will be well :p

well hopefully you didn't pay for it yet since now its removed from ebay for some reason

Yah I just got that too, but when I go to "My Ebay" it shows up and links correctly. 'Might be because it says "You bought this item" in a green strip across the top and only I can view it. But when I try to view it linked from here, it says the listing has been removed. Maybe eBay tracks where the link comes from and disallows any links to sold items from off-site.. ( ? )

Here's the seller's URL :

Apparently they're a valid b&m store in Chicago. Online store: http://www.popularelect.com/Samsung-I9100-Galaxy-S-II-Unlocked-Quad-Band-GSM-p/i9100galaxysii.htm

ok I found it. Your link is not right but the item number works
$882 seems like bigtime $$

That's about the best I've seen it sold in N.America. Considering it's not going to be officially released here until the 3rd quarter of this year. 'Saw it in Netherlands for a bit cheaper.

But I read that it'll retail for ~ $950 CDN here in Canada (which is like a grand US :) ) Engadget had it pegged at somewhere just below $1000 I believe, so I figured $842 was a good deal

You'll have to report your results once it arrives good sir, as I was hoping to do the exact same thing. 8D

Also I can't see the S2 being $950 here, as the iphone 4 wasn't that much, nor the Atrix. If the price differences is so vast, I may just be getting an Atrix, as $750 outright is where I draw the line.

Keeping in mind, a premium must be paid to have something in advance, like you said, won't be released until Q3, worth the $850+ imo

Will do ! I was going to hold off until early summer, but once I saw it wasn't going to be released until Q3 - then probably Q4 by the time Canadian carriers figure out how to release it, I got impatient, found a reputable eBay seller, and got an unlocked one. Which might be better in the long run because I think it will run on *all* Cdn carriers (as well as great roaming capabilities worldwide when unlocked).

The funny thing is I hardly use my phone for communications. But I do use it a lot for games, weather apps, GPS. And as my Moto Droid is laggy when jumping around to different things on the phone, I figured if I'm going to upgrade, I might as well get the fastest out there.

Yah... I love/hate technology. I'm a techno junky, but hate paying 3X the anything will be in 2 years. Heck, I went shopping for a microSD card 2 nights ago with a friend and saw you can get an 8GB microSD SanDisk on sale for 14.99 now. It didn't seem long ago that 2GB micro's were 80 bucks. So, I could wait 3 years and pick up a Galaxy S2 for probably $199, but it'll be old news by then compared to all the latest stuff out. Me thinks they just need to stop inventing things so that our top-of-the-line stuff stays top-of-the-line

I'd like to know where you read that it wouldn't launch until Q4? Because I read that I would launch either late Q2/early Q3

And as a BestBuy mobile salesman, I asked the Bell national retail representative, who played with the phone 2 months ago at a Samsung conference, told me that it would launch some time this summer, likely exclusive to Bell.

So PLEASE, share your links :D

Too much money. You can get it from Expansys USA for $749:
Samsung Galaxy S II Android Smartphone (Unlocked, 16GB) #GT-I910016GB - Expansys USA

Or from Handtec.co UK for the same, and from Clove UK.

Bought mine from Expansys and shipping is free as is the UK to US adapter.:)
You don't have to pay VAT if you don't live in the UK, do you? Cause 430 pounds = $675 Canadian?

Darksky Yeah it sounds like you and I are in the same boat, I'll be looking to order one SOON (also depending on your results with Telus) but I will wait until the NFC chip is in all of them I think =D
Speaking of which, you should check if yours comes with the NFC chip or not..

I'm starting to wonder whether or not this NFC chip is worth it, as well as if I'll want to use it or not..

Does the UK use different power cables by chance, will I need adapters?
Sounds like I can just order from the UK and be as happy as a pig in mud..

Yes, the mains adapters are different, you will need an adapter. Expansys includes this with the phone.

That place is FISHY as hell. I called them and they told me they would price match at $799 with expansys for $749, but since expansys was out of stock they wouldnt do it. Then I offered to pick the phone up, and they said they "out of stock until wednesday." They just told me they price match, but only on stores with the phone in stock, then they told me they themselves didnt even have stock. Then, i called overseas electronics which is RIGHT NEXT DOOR, and they said they had them in stock. I was getting ready to head out when the guy called me back and said "we are out of stock until wednesday." They also wanted $50 more. IF thats not enough, heres a google maps of popularelect and overseas:
