Root perm root and clockworkmod help

ok i have evo shift i know not a evo but its the same for this trying to back up rom i put in clockworkmod recovery i am temp rooted shift hard to perm root . i hit back up rom it restarts and sits at htc boot screen till i pull bat ???
since you are temp rooted, when you reboot your shift it loses root and you will not be able to access recovery. so... you can not create a nand backup

Rom vs. kernel explanations - http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/129648-quick-intro-rooting-those-new-rooting.html

RULE 1 of rooting - read, read, read - be familiar with terms and what you're going into before starting - do not just press buttons.

RULE 2 of rooting - get comfortable, be patient. For some, rooting goes quick, for others it takes longer. There's no explaining that - that's just the way it is. If you're not patient when rooting and you hit the takes-longer path, then you're likely to get frustrated and mess something up.

That's not true that everything is in the first two posts of that thread.

It says things like - make sure you adb setup on your computer - but doesn't cover that.

It presumes knowledge of a lot of stuff that's not given explicitly. If you know that stuff, I agree - that's a great step-by-step guide.

They are all right, When I decided to root mine, it took me 3 weeks to get myself up to doing it.
1. I didnt know what I was doing, so I read read read
2. I was worrying about bricking a $400 phone lol so I read read read
3. I didnt see what the big deal was all about "rooting?" now I see what Ive been missing.
4. Thanks to all the people on here that post great info and are willing to help others.

I like the way they give absolutely no credit to the original developer of Shiftrr.

Around here - we HATE that!

If any links like that come up here, not properly attributing the great folks making it all happen - please PM me or hit the !Report button on the post, and maybe say FAO EarlyMon (fao=for attention of) in the report.

I promise to work to get the right links in place - with thanks in advance for anyone helping this way. Also ok in cases like this to post the right link and tell the other guy to "kindly take that link down, it's not the official one."

And gang - if a dev has his own site, or a page here or at XDA - no linking to just his download portal. Link to the dev, PLEASE!

The root community devs don't charge outright for their mega-hard work, but they do accept donations, and some of that goes to keeping download site accounts open. So - they should get their due, in thanks and any donations (if your wallet won't open, at least open your heart).

It's the right thing to do, your dog will love you more and the cat will purr that much louder. (And, yes, there's incontrovertible proof of that - try it.)

Cheers, thanks a lot! ;)
