Help Screen too sensitive!

Please help! I have a HTC Desire, only a couple of months old and Im struggling to use it. Everytime I start to message, or anything else, the screen goes mental!! My notifications bar keeps dropping down and I only have to hover over the keypad for the phone to think I pressed the key pad!!

Has this behavior just started recently or has it always been like that? The notification bar opening as you describe sounds strange. My Desire doesn't act like that, so it's possible there could be a problem with the touch screen or the software that handles the touch control method.

The Desire screen is very sensitive but what you describe could be a fault.

look and see if you are touching any part of the screen unintentionally (either the corners or sides). doing that makes the screen go cuckoo if you touch it anywhere else. it's happened to me before

Now I'm not suggesting you're particularly sweaty or anything, but the only time I have seen this sort of behaviour is on a really hot day when I'd made call, and the screen had got sweat on it. Because the touchscreen is capacitive, anything that is sligtly conductive - like water full of electrolytes - will throw it off.
Have you got a screen protector on? Maybe try removing it - they're pretty pointless as the glass is very hard.
Otherwise, it sounds like a faulty digitizer.
