***Official OTA First Impressions Thread (non-rooted stock)***

I don't do "new" very well, so it's going to take some getting used to. It seems a little laggy to me, but maybe after it's restarted a couple of times it will speed up. I had my froyo rooted with Z4, but unrooted for the OTA. If I root this, it will only be if someone comes up with another idiot proof (because I'm a techno idiot) method like Z4. If not, then it'll be stock for me.

have you heard of gingerbreak? basically the same thing as z4. Not sure if it works on the DX though

I do like the improved text selection tools. When trying to edit a text message it is much simpler - just tap within the text, and an arrow appears below where you tapped that you can drag back and forth to move the insertion cursor where you want to add/edit text. If you hold down on the typed text, you can select all text or an individual word. You then get two arrows that you can drag back and forth to select the desired text to cut, copy or delete.

I'm loving it so far. I noticed a bit of lag immediately after the update (around 6:30AM). Since then though, I have seen virtually no lag. I am using LPP tho too.

The one thing that is bugging me is that the screen brightness seems lower than before. Previously I had it set on about 20-25% brightness. I noticed that the update switched it to 50% brightness level, but this 50% seems much more dim than the 25% on Froyo. It could just be in my head, but for now I've amped up the brightness to 75% to feel like it is more inline with the previous appearance at 25%...though definitely the lock screen is significantly darker, that much I have no doubt of.

Yeah, I tried the gingerbreak, it did not work. I also saw on chainfires xda post that another ota user did not have success. So, for now, it looks like no gingerbreak on the official ota. :(

I don't like the brighter physical buttons either.
Aaaaand, I have that stinkin sync icon! So, it looks like a factory reset for me. yuck!

Do the led notifications work? I saw an earlier post that said they did not, but that was with handcent I believe. Do they work on stock gb?

Edit: I just sent myself a test and it looks like the led's work, yay!

I also feel like it made the light behind 4th physical buttons brighter, did anyone else notice or is it just me?

I can here to ask the same question. Yes, they do seem much brighter!

Edit:

Also I notice the lag was gone from the bluetooth voice command application, so that's good.

I'm not sure if I like the new preview popup in the messaging widget.

Scratch that. I can connect just fine, it's the STAYING connected that is a problem. No email sync, no wifi? Ugggh...
Yes, I occasionally lose my connection.

Find a huge video file, 300MB or so, like an episode of the Diggnation on HQ Video and try to download it.

A large, continuous download almost always causes me to lose my wifi connection.

Big PITA.

My netflix says "New version of app is found, you must upgrade to be able to use application" but when I hit ok, it says the request could not be found. I unistalled the app and downloaded it again from the developers site. Any ideas?

This worked for me...............

I am not happy to see the % of Battery Remaining disappear from the battery settings area and that you have to hit the usage tab to get the 0-100 Battery graph. That's just fixing something that isn't broke. Is it that hard to replace the crappy battery icon with a % of power remaining (even say in 10% increments)?

We are having stormy weather here today and I was not able to get a good WiFi or 3G lock for awhile. I bumped into the fact the JuiceDefender is not compatible with GB so I uninstalled it and at least the WiFi is back, both it and the 3G are much slower but there, for today, I'll blame that on the weather.

We'll see after the Update settles in some.

Bruce in Ocala, FL -never really that big a fan of the real GB

The only thing that bugs me so far is the the weird blue transparent thing that pops up when you scroll to the top or bottom of a window, like the settings menu... I dont understand why thats there, cause its ugly.

Oh and there is a possible bug where you press the dialer launcher button and it takes you to the last tab you were on there instead of the dialer. Annoying.

For those of you with wireless issues, I noticed my setting under advanced wifi setup for sleep changed. You folks with issues might want to make that is set for never.

It kinda does. When i put the phone on the dock, the dimmed screen is brighter. There an option to turn off the lights on the physical buttons when charging on the dock?

I'm loving Gingerbread. Liking the navy blue notification bar. Like the option to close certain notifications. My phones feels a bit snappier but that may be because i just restarted the phone to update.

First impression: Awesome!:D Finally!:D

Second Impression: Wonder if I can root? :( (Heard you can't, at least not yet)
Disappointed with the third chance Verizon has used to shove un-removable bloat crap down our throats.

Overall though: very happy with my update. Most annoying thing about Froyo was if you added a Facebook account through the default app, it auto-populated all your Facebook contacts into your address book (ANNOYING!) but now you can shut that off! Yeah!:D

I ran the .588 release, official .596 through sd install, sbf'd back to .340 and installed a fresh OTA today.

First things first. I really appreciate gingerbread and the changes that have been discussed. I feel as though I have a new phone and the misc. crap Verizon puts on the phone isn't in my way. One word... WOOHOO!

Secondly I can tell you that after a fresh install this droid x runs smooth. I'm not advising anyone to go this route but I would do it the same way all over. No issues with the keyboard, everything is running great. I'm not running LPP or any other launcher as I like the blur interface (flame on).

Edit: only complaint is the hard key back lights are to bright.

It made me love this phone a LOT more.... I just traded my dinc for this dx and I was really happy with my trade and now I am even more happy. My battery lasted ALL day and I use my phone constantly... I use maps with GPS, I am using live wallpaper, and I am constantly texting and browsing... it is such an upgrade from the Incredible.

Basically, coming from the Incredible the Droid X's GUI felt a little primitive when compared to the HTC Sense, but this really cleaned things up and I am very happy. This is by far the best phone Ive ever owned and I switch phones every 4 or 5 months cause Im an ass hole like that.... hehe

Absolutely. I feel as if gingerblur puts the blur interface right up at the top.
