Major negatives of the stock GB update:
-Battery life seems quite a bit worse, even with me having done all of the usual battery-saving techniques in stock, unrooted Android (no active widgets, Battery Saver profile, screen on auto-brightness, no BT, GPS or Wi-Fi etc).
-When in contacts I go to enter a new contact and I am prompted with "Choose an account to store new contacts" and I have Googler or BackUp Assistant (which I refuse to use and skipped the initial setup). Even if I choose Google and tick "Remember this choice" it still prompts me with this screen EVERY time I go to enter a new contact. This is VERY annoying since I do the majority of my PIM and contact data input on my handset and not via PC browser.
-Keyboard still lags horribly
-Hard button illumination frequently does not come on, even in a pitch-black environment
-Video recording seems wacky. It stutters and locks up when initiating recording. I lost two "memorable moments" this week when it appeared to be recording but nothing was written to the card. This has never happened before with my DX or that same Sandisk memory card.
Minor but still annoying GB issues:
-New Gmail messages occasionally do not show up until I hit "refresh" even with auto-sync is enabled.
-Inexplicable signal loss when sending multiple text messages in a row. I have gotten a BUNCH of "message not sent" notifications this week!
-When I hit "Settings, Applications, Manage Applications", the graph at the bottom of the screen is frequently corrupted. Same thing happens with the "Battery use" graphic as well as the "Applications", "Running services" graph for RAM usage.
-Camera always defaults to widescreen mode after a reboot, as has been widely reported
The Pros:
-MUCH better, smoother peformance (obviously) and usability (especially the ability to clear individual notifications)
-The new "GingerBlur" UI is far from perfect but a huge improvement over the Froyo Blur.
-Gallery seems MUCH faster now
-No more unlock screen lag
-The new baseband seems to have helped reception slightly in fringe areas (but the DX is still inferior to my OG Droid or especially older Moto CDMA phones like the RAZR2 V9m).
-The home button clock to view the 7 panel overview is a nice touch too.
Overall, I'd love to see one final Droid X update that would bump it up to Android 2.3.4 and resolve all of the little lingering bugs but I am afraid this is the end of the road for official DX updates from Moto.
