***Official OTA First Impressions Thread (non-rooted stock)***

I also feel like it made the light behind 4th physical buttons brighter, did anyone else notice or is it just me?

dude, I totally noticed that. Not quite sure why they did that. It illuminates the dust in there, imho. It does have a much sleeker feel to it, and I have definitely noticed a marked speed increase with the applications i use.

I also enjoy the app grouping, and the battery information we get in battery manager!!!!! I love that kind of stuff. I want to know such specific details, and I like it when it's placed right into a build. It's just enough information to keep me happy. Right down the the dashed bar describing its usage. Nice work.

I did notice the bar is blue. I like the new 'not so quickly double-click the home button' feature to bring up the profile windows. I always found swiping from side to side to be somehow bulky. If I'm in the middle of something, I like to have pressed the home button twice with a little pause between and know that I'm about to be on the right screen in less than a second. I feel like it made the icon panel larger, by using a more efficient way.

All-in-all I am very pleased with this update. Not groundbreaking, but definitely allowing me to enjoy new features that, at one point or another in the few months having my Droid X, I thought to myself 'damn, that should be there already.'

Good on ya.

so...i'm surprised no one has noticed this. when you over scroll you see a blue haze start to bleed down the area you're scrolling in. it's hard to explain...go into settings & keep scrolling to the bottom & slowly try to scroll even further (even tho it's stopped moving). you'll notice a small blue faded color start to creep up...

what's that about? checked 2 other droid x's that did official OTA & mine which is the patched(rooted) ota build. all show same thing

This seems to be a "feature" of the software now. Many have commented on it. :)

OK, I am now officially ready to sh**can my "update".

My LED is totally Tango Uniform. No Workee.

I never had any notification app and don't really want one to have to kick the LED in it's a**.

I've done 2 Battery pulls. No joy.

This I see has also happened on the leaks too.

MOTOROLA, HOW THE HELL COULD YOU RELEASE AN UPDATE THAT KILLS A MAJOR FUNCTION OF THE DAMN PHONE?!

So is the offcial gingerbread out???
Has it been rooted??
I've heard free tethering won't work with any program on gingerbread- is this true??

If I want gingerbread, I have to unroot- in order to get the update right? And will I just receive a notification on my phone? Or do I have to go somewhere? What does ota mean?

So ... I think I did something wrong.

I downloaded and installed what I thought was the latest GB because I couldn't stand waiting anymore, through the recovery mode. I have 4.5.596, but I saw someone post here that they got rid of that for the OTA. What do I do? I'm not happy with the battery life (40% after 13-1/2 hours unplugged, a couple of phone calls, some gin rummy, e-mail and twitter) compared to what I think I used to get. I like the cosmetics, but my camera still takes forever to initialize for the first shot.

I had to do a data wipe to get rid of the sync icon, too.

I dunno, I feel like it doesn't run as smoothly. Should I go back to the old version and then download the OTA version? If so, I think that's referred to as SBF, yeah? I have no idea, I've read these forums but I have the attention span of a gnat, which is why I love my Droid, I can do 10 things at once on it.

First impression: horrible

I am stock and unrooted, I was on the stock froyo and running "go launcher" which I was pretty happy with. Got the OTA update from this morning, immediately had problems doing anything with my DX. Did a battery pull and hoped for the best, notice constant lag that is way more than I ever had with Froyo. I ended up using the default launcher and uninstalling all the go launcher/sms/contacts apps, but still have lots of lag. None of my music apps work (stock, 3, Amazon MP3, doubletwist). I have done literally 20 battery pulls today due to locked up phone. I have received phone calls and have been unable to answer any of them. The battery has been getting sucked down like crazy, I have plugged it in for 30-90 min 3-4 times today, and I usually just charge overnight while I am sleeping.

Frankly, I can not believe what is happening, I loved my DX yesterday, just plagued with it locking up once or twice a week, looked forward to gingerbread as the "new" thing, now I am hoping there is a way I can go back!

Liking it so far for the most part. I'm digging the new color scheme and the static icons at the bottom. I like the idea of having 3 profiles, but wish there was a way to schedule them automatically. Though, I'm not entirely sure I'll be using additional profiles.

I have noticed a nice change. When placed in the desktop dock, the screen is much darker so there is much less light bleeding into the room. This was a problem when sleeping as even with the screen dimmed, the room still felt rather lit up. However, someone muffed that up by keeping the backlight for the hard keys lit. So its back to square one. Hopefully they will fix that with a minor update.

Also, using the same select text interface as honeycomb is a very welcome feature. The updated calendar and email program are much easier to use. And most importantly, most things are running much faster. I'm quite satisfied.

Sorry- i'm reposting- i haven't been able to find an answer on this questions in other threads =\

So far it seems okay, definitely faster. Also notice the buttons are annoyingly brighter, but I think I'm going to hit them with some black fingernail polish to put an end to that problem. I know what and where they are, I don't need them lit up like that. For me that's particularly annoying as I use my X as a book reader a lot and those are brighter than my screen in night mode.

The phone is much more snappy and the back lights behind the physical buttons are definitely brighter. Anybody notice that contacts and dialer are the exact same now?

Oh, and my LED notifications are not working either. DOHHHH

Hmmm.... Funny. That didn't happen to me. I've still got my rainbow of LED notifications and I'm just on the stock GB.

I have only had my update for a matter of hours.... I like how when its on standby... the screen isn't so dark... love the new calender set up... also like the new text messanger changes as well...Probably won't use the 3 profiles but think its a nifty idea... Love the text message box in the taskbar... I think i'll get used to it:)

OK just got it this morning and am trying to see what's new. I'm not rooted and honestly not that advanced in use of the phone.

Noticed the brighter 4 buttons, I'm ok with it so far.

My first observation/complaint is the 4 static icons at the bottom of the screen for call, address book, txt and app tray. I HATE THEM! I have my txt already in my message area and don't like having the app tray as an icon instead of the screen scroll points (which also changed from having a quick tap to screen to just a tiny little bar for the screen you are on).

Does seem to be syncing a lot (on the 4th time in last 1.5 hrs).

After reading above I did a test for LED notifications and found that my Gmail account notification settings had been changed and the LED was not checked. My other email account settings stayed the same.

That's all for now.....

I was stock, unrooted FroYo. Got my OTA update yesterday afternoon.

The good:
I dig the new tray icons. Not only that there are four of them, but that they are customizable. This is the one thing I wanted a launcher previously, but hated the way most launchers did everything else, so I just ignored it. This is a great improvement.

The dark notifications bar. Took me a bit to get used to, but I think I like it.

The ability to clear individual notifications. Never thought about wanting it, love that I can do it now.

Profiles.

Blue scrolling "you've gone to far" haze. Others seem to be bitching about it. I dig it.

The whines:
My LED is not working for native apps, specifically. Notifications from TweetDeck give me an LED, but not emails or text messages. Have not tried a battery pull yet.

My "Gmail Unread Count" widgets did not work at first. Tried a reinstall to no avail. I have emailed the developer. I've reinstalled them a second time and they *appear* to be working right now. We'll see if they continue to update.

My Fancy Widgets clock seems to lag a bit when I come back to the home screen. Lame.
