X-Men (1992 Arcade game) by Konami - available NOW!

Wow! Without so much as a peep of advertising (from what I can tell), Konami has ported their very popular old-school button-masher onto the Android (and iPhone, simultaneously) Retro-heads can grab it now!

And if you want to thank me for having an eagle-eye and giving a heads up on this game, you can certainly grab yourself a copy of my own game 180 as well (it is free, natch!)

Enjoy!

Funny seeing the media coverage of the iOS version of this where they don't mention the Android version at all. This is why we still have the "Waaaahh Android doesn't have any games" turds still.

I think you can look to a couple of reasons for this.
For starters, Konami didn't put out any pre-release info on either game, they just sort of "appeared" (obviously to promote the movie). Which itself is strange, but not highly unusual.

As for the coverage, you can attribute that to the fact that there is generally more actual consideration of app release coverage in the iPhone scene then there is in the Android scene, sadly. When something of note pops up, it will get interest on one of their (iPhone) dedicated forums immediately and spread from there like wildfire, ensuring some front-page coverage as well, discussion on podcasts, posts on twitter and facebook, etc. Android sites just generally do not care enough about app releases to be so on the ball quite as much, sadly - and this is one of the big issues that holds the Android scene back from attracting more developers to the platform.

I have complained about this same issue in a couple of different threads already, and so I am starting to gain some "broken record" status I am sure - but if that's what it will take to start effecting some change in this scene, so be it.

Case in point - in the iPhone's number-one app-discussion forum, TouchArcade, they have a thread 160 posts long talking about their version of this same game already (released same time as Android). In this thread right here, this is the 4th post after nearly the same amount of time. This is supposed to be one of the biggest forums for game discussion in the Android scene - let's get busy and start some activity :)

I saw this the other day. I remember this game! If I had and XPeria Play, I'd be all over it. I just don't see this game being all that enjoyable on a touchscreen -- unless the onscreen controls are really good.

Anyone try this out yet?

I tried it out. The onscreen controls suck. I got my ass kicked as Wolverine as I sat there and tried futilely to get the controls to respond. There were several other times when I'd try to walk and couldn't walk 'cuz I couldn't get my finger on the control. This was on the Galaxy Tab. The D pad is about the size of a half dollar or so. If you do not have your finger within that circle, it does not respond at all which is very frustrating.

The control could definitely be better. But after an hour or two of playtime I have fully adjusted to how it works and I'm getting pretty good. Overall it's an amazing port and well worth getting. Hopefully in a future update the control will improve.

I returned it within the 15 min window. I had no idea if the controls were something I could get used to or not.
