Root Android 2.1, 2.3 Web Browser Change

I really liked the web browser from Android version 2.2. 2.1 and 2.3 seem to use the same browser that I really don't like. Anyone else noticed this?

The browser from 2.1 and 2.3 has this really ugly layout. They also don't have a back button. Certain 2.3 browsers don't have a setting to change mobile-desktop protocol which I really don't like mobile versions of webpages.

Is there anyway to port Android 2.2 web browser or get a copy of it or modify the other browsers?

Currently, I'm using the MIUI ROM with the browser I really dislike.

i use dolphin as my web browser. so not sure but you can pull the browser apk from a rom of your choice by using root explorer or es file manager and see if that works.

Nah...didn't work :/

I found one of the browsers that I liked from one of the ROMs that I know uses it and then found the .apk and put it to my SD card where I store app .apk's at and it had the same internet symbol and said browser and then asked me if I was sure that I wanted overwrite the existing app. So I clicked yes, it installed (took less than a second to install) then I click okay and proceeded to the browser to see if it was changed. When the browser opened, it was exactly the same. Also the last webpage I visited was still on there so I know that no new changes were made; otherwise it would've restarted to the homepage.

actually what you need to do is using root explorer:
1. go into your system apps and press mount r/w
2.find your browser and long press it and select rename. i just add a number to the end of the name.
3.then with root explorer you need to find the apk on your sd card and copy it
4.go back to the system apps and paste your browser apk.

i believe that will work. it should be the same thing in es file manager. you just need to make sure that it is not set to read only. hope that works as i have never tried this.

of course make sure to do a nandroid backup before doing this.
