see what you guys think let me know ....
Hey guys,

Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile networks > Network Mode.

It will be on GSM / WCDMA auto.

Change it to GSM only.

My HTC Incredible S gets full bars of reception ever since and no delay in receiving text.

Hope this helps :)

yeah but it's supposed to be a smart phone,
not a GSM phone from 16 years ago.

everything now is 3G/4G, GSM is archaic.

incidentally, my handset doesn't even offer GSM I have to type in
*#*#4636#*#* to get to the Testing Screen and manually change it to
GSM only to avoid this SMS Delay that their useless update has created.

HTC are idiots and need to patch this immediately.

my HTC is a paperweight now while I use my freshly delivered
Nokia X7, no such SMS Delays on that so far, but thats cos Nokia know what they're doing.

Boo HTC hiss.

Hi MADCV,
I agree with you ...

Changing the Network mode to GSM only is not a solution !!!

We bought a SMARTPHONE (actually with this bug it's a STUPIDPHONE) anyway, HTC HAS TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM ASAP!!!

I'm thinking about change it ...

Hi,

I've had the Incred S for three weeks. It has had the SMS delay issue and missed calls from the first week. The phone can be sitting there asleep and it won't ring. Wake it up and it can receive the call. SMS come in anywhere between 20 mins and 3 hrs later.

The GSM 'fix' posted earlier does help missed call and SMS delay, but it is NOT a solution to the problem.

I contacted HTC about the issue and was told the usual troubleshooting steps, Soft Reset, Hard Reset and Try a different SIM. If that didn't work they said go back to the store and arrange someone to look at it under warranty. I did all the steps. The problem was the same on both Optus and Vodafone networks and at different physical locations (so not the carriers fault). I intentionally did a reset when I first got the phone so I can't see why another reset would solve the problem, however I gave that a go as well, no solution.

A HTC Tier 2 rep contacted me for the build details of the phone. A week later they advised me they are aware of the problem and it appears to be related to phones bough from Singapore being used in Australia. They now want me to send the original email to the HTC Singapore Tech support team and see if they can solve it. It feels like they are brushing me off to someone else hoping I give up.

I feel like going back to the company I bought it from (online purchase in Aus) but their return policy is 48hr DOA otherwise submit a warranty claim through another company.

Anyone in Aus have the same issue? What build are your running? I'm sure the issue doesn't just happen on a 'Singapore' Incred S

I'd be interested to see what build someone with an unlocked Aus Incred S that doesn't have this problem is running.

My Build (stock - non root):
HTC Incredible S 710e
Android Version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense: 2.1
Baseband Version: 20.2805.30.085AU_3805.04.03.27_M
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.9-g529446e htc-kernel@and 18-2 #1 Fri Apr 22 20:35:15 CST 2011
Build Number: 2.12.707.5 CL37872 release-keys
Software Version: 2.12.707.5
Browser Version: WebKit/533.1

@brezey

dude, lemme guess, you bought from Mobicity? Man this exact problem has literally made me pull my brains out, i have so many different roms, radios ive literally tried everything. My phone is also from hong kong, because it had that software on it.

HTC support were no help.

No one on xda developer forums has any idea why this happens.

Im so pissed with this phone atm, im waiting for the new iphone and im gonna sign up to that, this phone is garbage.

@ neo-X

Yes, I purchased it at Mobicity :(. I have been onto HTC for the last two weeks, their Level 2 support have now advised me that it is in the hands of HTC Singapore Tech support to fix. HTC SG give the usual 'our engineers are aware of the problem and are working hard to resolve it'.
They have developed a fix for the Aus version of Incred S however they won't give me details of the ROM as flashing my device will void the warranty, even if they do it (strange). At this stage I don't want to play around with ROMs myself as it's only 3 weeks old and should be up to the mfg to sort out.

I've raised a warranty claim with Aussie Warranties (Mobicity's warranty centre) and will see where this gets me. Re-flashing it with current SG firmware and any replacement from Mobicity will prob exhibit the same problem, so it might be time to see if I can get a different model. Maybe in the mean time I'll see if the warranty centre can flash it to 2.2 to get me by while they sort this out.

No ETA on when the HTC SG engineers will deliver the fix !

On a positive note, I can get 4 days out of a battery on GSM only (As a phone - moderate calls, SMS, light wifi usage, no games). It beats the 1.5 - 2 days on 3G I was getting with the same usage.

Thanks neo-X. I'll update you with my warranty claim I submitted today.

Official reply from HTC Support Singapore today:

With reference to your query, sorry for any inconvenience. switching to GSM can alleviate the issue, and you also can download an application named "handsent sms" to help you handle with this problem.

Hope your phone will work normally very soon.

So a third party app is going to "help" with the problem. I already have Go SMS Pro from suggestions posted on this forum (and I wanted to use it regardless of this issue). GoSMS and handsent SMS did nothing to help the problem. SMS Delay is annoying, but missed calls while the phone sleeps is totally unacceptable.

So no word of any fix at all..

@neo-X

I've been talking to the repair center Aussie Warranty Services and they have informed me there is no solution to the problem at this stage. Lucky I checked before sending the phone! They have had three phones returned with the exact same issue and have put the paperwork through to the respective companies (Mobicity and the likes) to inform them of such and to issue a replacement.

The problem I am now faced with is if I return it to get warranty serviced to be told, no solution - replace phone, that the replacement will be one with the exact same issue. Since Mobicity source their stock internationally the chances of this are extremely high.

HTC's response is be patient and we don't have a deadline of when the fix will be finalised.

Hi All,

Yep, still the same experience, SMS anywhere from 20 mins to 3 hrs late. The latest has been overnight. Wake the phone in the morning to receive a message sent at 9pm the night before. Calls missed while the phone sits next to me asleep. GSM is great for Calls, SMS and battery life but NOT for data!! The data rate is slower than dialup!

Latest from HTC Singapore: 'we are working hard to resolve the issue'. There is no definite deadline of when the fix will be published. The problem has been escalated to HTC HQ Taiwan.

In the mean time they have suggested downgrading to Froyo 2.2 to 'fix' the problem. So one can assume the problem lies in the gingerbread upgrade for Incred S. The catch... I have to ship the phone back to HTC Singapore for the downgrade and pay for shipping both ways! Not going to happen!! They couldn't even recommend an Aussie service centre to perform the downgrade.

If you have this issue, file a tech support case with HTC in your country and when you receive the satisfaction survey complain about it. I've had HTC non stop trying to contact me regarding this issue now. It won't get it fixed any quicker but it will at least let them know its bigger than they think.

What is really irritating is a friend of mine has a Desire HD with 2.3.3, purchased from Mobicity sourced from the same location (SG) and used in the same country (AUS) with no issues!. How can they get it right on one model and so wrong on another????

Has anyone tried using something like Juicedefender.

As this turns the mobile data off when the phone is in standby could this be a better solution than leaving it on GSM all the time. I know you'd only get data updates every 15 minutes or so but it might be a temporary work around until HTC get the problem solved.

Thanks for the update. Yea, I'd say its an automated response like the first message I got to send it for assessment (waiting for the outcome of your phone). From what they told me over the phone, they don't have a solution and will just forward the case to Mobicity for a replacement phone. They said they had three phones with the same problem so maybe lucky number four??
It will be interesting to if you get a replacement sourced from the same region and what software build is on it.

Hi all,

I signed up here to post this in case it helps anyone, I had a bog standard Desire S that I got from a T-Mobile store here in the UK and it worked absolutely fine until I was prompted to install an update. Once I did this update I had the SMS delay everyone else has and changing the network to "GSM only" fixed it, but as someone else has said this isn't a solution.

I didn't want to deal with returning the phone to T-Mobile/HTC so I S-Offed, rooted, and installed clockworkmod. Then I upgraded the "Radio" image from version "20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M" which I assume is what the official update installed to version "20.41.30.0818U_3817.07.00.19_M". Since I did this everything has gone back to normal and it's working perfectly.

I haven't changed ROM or anything else, still on android 2.3.3 but everything has been working fine for the past few days anyway.

Not sure if this will help as I see this is in the HTC Incredible S section rather than Desire S but I thought I would post my experience with the whole thing.

Hmm, interesting...that radio you flashed seems like a GB 2.3.5 leaked version. Maybe they fixed it in the latest release.

I have 20.2805.30.085AU_3805.04.03.27.M

is this an even older radio than the one you had before you flashed??

PS. Where'd you find this radio??

He has a Desire S don't forget, you can't flash the same radio he did.

There is a new radio for Inc S however, you have .27 there is a 3805.06.03.03 radio and a 3805.06.03.16 radio.

Neither have solved my problem.
