Here's the deal. My brother in-law loaned added me on his own account and gave me the phone. However, the phone is an older model LG VX9800. I want to use my Droid Eris from an older account instead of this older phone he gave me. How could I do this? The service provider for the VX9800 phone and my former Droid Eris phone is Verizon.

Sure. Since you are a secondary account on a family plan, your brother-in-law will either need to do this or authorize you to make changes on the account. This can be done by activating a new phone online, I believe, or by calling VZW customer service, or by visiting a store. They will want you to read the ID number of the phone, which is on a sticker under the battery. Also know that changing to an Eris will automatically add a $30 data plan to the account.

Well, my brother has already added me to his account and he told me that it was only a $10 additional fee monthly. So, all that I need to do is contact Verizon to make the system change?

As I said, if he is the primary on the account, either he will have to contact , or, when you call, they will call him to verify the change. And, of course, to verify the $30 data plan.
