Root Can THIS happen if I root...??

So I just went to use my Nesoid and see that it is nowhere to be found. After some investigation, I read that it's been removed from the Android Market due to copyright violations (which I have no idea how since nesoid just emulated and stayed far away from the actual games).

Anyway it seems the big G saw fit to invade my phone and remove an app from MY equipment, without notification and certainly without permission (I understand that and probably worse is in the fine print somewhere). But if my Verizon DX had been rooted, could they still have done this?

Google can remove an app from our phones regardless of root. They don't just remove things willy nilly, there's a good reason for the removal, be it for our protection or due to copyrights, etc.

Incidentally, I virtually guarantee that Google did not remove Nesoid from your phone.

I agree... you will actually receive an email from them before they do anything on your phones. They would be invading your privacy if they just went in and did it. I still have Wireless Tether installed and it was pulled from the market weeks ago. Think you lost nesoid somehow (and installing root wouldn't remove it, rooting only adds a few files to the system)

Google is kinda like your ISP. They can care less what apps are on the market. They only remove apps at the behest of VZW if VZW has some sort of issue with said app.

As far as removing an app directly from your phone, I wasn't aware they could do that and to be honest I don't particularly like the idea of them being able to do that. It does seem to be a case of invasion of privacy to me no matter the reason. But at the end of the day what ya gonna do?

They have a kill switch just like Apple to ensure the safety and security of the OS. They are not using it for apps they simply remove from the market for violation of terms and conditions, but they used it not too long ago for a couple apps that were found to contain significant malware.

They do not and have not done this for NESoid or any of the *oid apps.

I don't know guys, I didn't think they could do that either, but I just used Nesoid a few days ago, and it was working fine. Then last night my Nesoid icon had disappeared and when I tried to create a new one, I found that Nesoid was completely gone, no trace left, uninstalled completely. All program files gone. Luckily all my roms were still there or I would've been REALLY ticked off. I changed nothing on the phone over that time peroid. So...you tell me, but I don't see any other explanation.

yes i have the gamboid, and rom buddy (which i paid for) i restore gamboid through titanium backup, but my rom buddy is gone, and i for one am not happy about that at all. but it was only like $2 or something like that, but its wrong that i gave someone $2 for something that i can no longer use because of TOS

You guys should ask for a refund. It's only $2, but it's the principle that should compel you to do so

It's cool, Zelda is one of my favorite games........it brings back memories of that that Golden cartridge for the 8-bit NES

Check out the slideme market, a third-party Android market like the Amazon version. All of the *oid emulators are still there and easily accessible. Luckily I have all of these emulators backed up in TiBu, so I can just reinstall if it gets "lost" somehow. I also have all of the ROMs backed up on my computer and DVD just in case.

I wish there was another app market that gave away free apps like Amazon, except they gave away good apps more frequently. Amazon's been sucking lately.

Dude... Google didn't remove it from your phone. They just didn't.

They have a kill switch. That is, they have a mechanism whereby, in an emergency situation, they can remove an app from all phones that connect to their servers.

This is not a mechanism where it randomly targets a few users to individually remove apps. I have NESoid. It's still on my phone. It's still on LOTS of peoples' phones.

A number of things could have removed it from your phone - filesystem problems, user error, syncing with Appbrain when the app is gone online... But Google didn't log into your phone and remove it.

Exactly. Im sorry but there is no possible way google decided to remove an app from your phone. There are far more serious apps that many of us have that they not bothered with.

Something happened, who knows what, but it wasn't google.

My GBC emulator was pulled from the market. I purchased it and after a wipe, I can't get it back. If anyone has the .apk for it that would work (nevermind) I forget which one it was. The icon was a blue GBC.

I thought the ROMs were illegal (if you didn't own the game), not the emulators.

I don't know what happened, but I can eliminate user error, because I made no changes and did nothing strange to my phone over the couple days this happened. Also I don't use Appbrain so that's out. As far as file system errors, that would be a pretty selective error, seeing as there were no other problems. You could be right, but I think some people underestimate the power of the Google fine-print. I do not code apps, but I'm sure it's possible it had a backdoor so it could be removed by the creator? That's my only other theory.

Anyway it was a minor inconvenience in the big picture, but it's 10 minutes of my life I will never get back
