Help Xrecovery won't install.

Hi,

I have a rooted X10i which I have being trying to install Xrecovery on.
I downloaded the file to my pc,then copied it to my sdcard, opened the file and hit install,it then said installing & came up with the installed screen.
However when I opened the app (after reboot) & hit the install button the three blue dots (alongside the three files beneath) instead of turning to check marks, changed to red circles with a diagonal bar (presumably indicating that the files were not installed).I've listed the error messages (top)and the descriptions underneath if that helps.
Would really appreciate some assistance with this as I've tried the installation procedure several time with file downloads from various sources, all with the same result.

Many Thanks

SW.

If the file system is read only....I think your phone still isn't rooted....don't reflash or anything....but re-root. Start phone normally...use busybox again...make sure boxes are checked.

Turn off phone...start in xRecovery mode and then try again.

Looks like it is trying to install it....but can't copy any files to the locations it needs to copy.

Hi again!

Hope things are good with you, thanks once again for your prompt response.
Ok,I rooted my 'phone using Super One Clickv1.5.5-ShortFuse
and the screen showed it had rooted the phone & sure enough Superuser was in my apps draw.
I then went on to install BusyBox v1.19 which obtained SuperUser permissions without a problem installed & informed me that

"Your device is rooted"
Phone Model X10i
Android version 2.1 update 1
BusyBox in /system/xbin/
Version BusyBox v1.19.0.git.adry
with a checkbox below saying Symlink BusyBox Applets

I had already installed Titanim Backup Pro without a problem obtaining permissions or installing,so I guess my phone must be rooted?
The only question I have is,I noticed that there are several versions of BusyBox available within the app & whether I may have installed an incorrect version for my phone? If so,could this be responsible for the issues with Xrecovery? To be honest with you,the whole thing seems very confusing,I was quite pleased when I took the plunge & decided to try the rooting procedure & it appeared to be successful, but I'm now wondering if I did the right thing?
I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this,I'd like to get the Xrecovery thing sorted as I would like to install JIT to try and speed up the 'phone,& from what I understand this isn't possible without Xrecovery?

Once again thanks a lot for all your help so far,it IS appreciated,& with your explanations written in plain English I feel I've got a lot more confident about attempting things than I used to be.

Regards

SW.

p.s. When you say use BusyBox again,I don't understand what you mean when you say "make sure boxes are checked".

Alright....I'm going through the steps again to update my phone. Then I am gonna head to a buddies and do his.

Let's see if I can get this right.

I am going to load BlueSparks.

So I goto Blue Sparks and download the zip....copy the zip to /sdcard/xRecovery/backup

I copy xRecovery to /sdcard/xRecovery

I then download and install the [TOOL] [UPDATE 22/03/2011] Flashtool BETA version 0.2.9.1 - xda-developers . I run it....click root and flash the phone with Baseband 2.1.67

Then I restart the phone. I make sure debugging is checked and Unknown Sources are checked. I use Adao File Manager and go to /sdcard/xRecovery I run xRecovery0.3.apk and I click Install

Then I open xRecovery from the app menu...I click Install and it brings up a message from SuperUser asking for permission. I click Allow.

That didn't do it.

I reset phone to factory default.

Started x10 Tool....plugged phone back in after reset.....turned debugging back on....and Unknown Sources. I clicked APK Installer and chose the xRecovery0.3.apk and installed that. Then I clicked Root again at the top.

Then I unplugged the phone and restarted.

I tried in x10 Tool again...clicked Ask Root Perm and it prompted me on the phone to access using SuperUser....now in x10 Tool I can click on xRecovery Then went under x10 Tool menu at the top and chose Reboot in xRecovery mode.

Finally in xRecovery. Factory Reset....yes
Wipe Cache Partition
Then under Advanced, Wiped Dalvik and Wiped Battery Stats.
Then chose install custom zip....navigate to /sdcard/xRecovery/backup and chose the zip file.

Then I chose to reboot the phone. It starts up....boots into Android...shows homescreen and after about 10-15 seconds the phone restarts itself.

That is it. It loaded.

Just wanted to mention I already had that ROM loaded and I made a mistake.

I needed to unzip the BlueSparks zip and then put it in a folder on the sdcard in /sdcard/xrecovery/backup/Blue_Sparks written exactly like that (or it will give a md5 mismatch)

unzip the contents there (the .img file and stuff)

Then in xRecovery I have to chose Restore and point to that folder....then it restores the image.

Reboot after the couple minutes it takes to install.

And that's it. Done....upgraded and ROMd.

Did it on a phone a couple minutes ago that was running a really old version of 2.1 and I had to reflash using SEUS from Sony.

Then reflash with generic and root...install xrecovery and then do all that stuff in xrecovery....with restoring.

Hi,

Tried all that, slowly & carefully to make sure I got it right, but still get the same problem with Xrecovery, initially it does the first part of the install but when I open the app & tap install I get the same errors.
It's really bizarre.

So when you open the x10 Tool and click Ask Root Perm (and click on the phone to accept) and then click xRecovery so it reinstalls xRecovery. Then at the top of the x10 menu chose to reboot in xRecovery mode. It should restart the x10....and it should bring you into the xRecovery flash mode.

Use the volume buttons to navigate up and down. That is when you want to doing a factory wipe and Wipe Cache Partition, then under Advanced, Wiped Dalvik and Wiped Battery Stats.

As long as you unzipped the contents of the zip file from here

Downloads

As long as the contents are here - /sdcard/xrecovery/backup/Blue_Sparks

Then you should be able to do a restore. In xRecovery go into Backup and Restore and chose to restore the img file that is located in /sdcard/xrecovery/backup/Blue_Sparks

It must be /sdcard/xrecovery/backup/Blue_Sparks exactly....it is case sensitive and needs to be in that precise location.

In xRecovery, it should do the restore for about a minute or so....it will show it is installing files and cycle through all the file names. If it just disappears quickly when you chose restore and jump back to the selection screen....something is wrong....

What step do you get to?

Ok,

I've just been through the whole process again,I get Xrecovery install,& then reboot into Xrecovery mode, only it doesn't,it seems that for some reason I can't fathom Xrecovery doesn't install properly,it seems to do the app install, but when you open it & hit install it always fails.
I've now done a full backup & factory reset through SEUS,& am thinking about whether to keep trying with this or maybe just upgrade to the new arc which has 2.3 installed and is a pleasure to use,I spent an hour playing around with it & was really impressed.
Anyhow thanks once again for all your efforts in helping me,I'm sure that if mistakes were made they were mine & NOT yours.

You should be able to do it all in that x10 Flash Tool.

Make sure you have Unknown Sources and Debugging Mode checked on the phone under Settings->Application....the in the x10 Flash Tool, you do all the rest. Click Root....after it roots, it will restart the phone, the click Ask Root Perm at the top. The on the phone it will prompt you to click OK and grant it access. Then you will be able to click xRecovery APK at the top....it will say it is installing it....then at the top in the menu, scroll down to xRecovery and chose Reboot in xRecovery Mode.

Does it still show the same message on the x10 Flash Tool page when you try and install xRecovery?
