Root can YOU rent and play new market movies?

So the new market allows for movie download EXCEPT for rooted users they say. Well has anyone tried it yet on the D1? I have the new market & have read that you might be able to buy but of your rooted you can't actually watch.

Anyone try it yet?

I didn't try it on my Droid, but I played around with it some on my Epic. I didn't see any option to purchase a movie. Only rent... I wasn't even able to download the special Google Movies app to try it out.

If I have time, I will try it out today and report back.

Update: I was able to install the Movies app on my Droid. It even let me rent a movie (again, didn't see an option to buy), but when I went to play the movie it said unable to play on rooted devices. I am on a stock ROM, but have a Chevy kernel... I am curious what checks they use to determine a rooted device.

Well, guess I'll be watching my rented movie on my computer...

Not purchase.. yes, I mean "rent" of course :)

so wow.. it looks like they really did block us. The bummer is, I also read they allow you to "rent" but not play so they do not do the check for root until after you pay of course.

Since rooting is not illegal, and they know they are going to block rooters from watching, they should block and do the check at the time of rental, not at time of play.

Pretty scummy move on their part.

That is an affirmative.... Let's you rent the movie, and it doesn't do the check until after you go to view the movie. Luckily, you can still watch it on your computer if you make the same "mistake" I did.

I was doing it more as a test to see if they would/could actually block rooted users. Oh well, I guess I can uninstall the updated version of the market, seeing as I don't plan on unrooting my phone just to have the option of renting movies for $3-4 per.

Here the link shows the option to play the movie on your computer. Being as I am at work, I haven't tried it yet.
