hello all. i have a few questions question about this. evreytime wipe wipe wipe i lose all data. is it supposed to do that even after a backup is performed? can i pull out my sd card and install the rom. Virus kingdom 1.4. currently, i uploaded the rom into the downloads root directory and installed it without wipe wipe wipe. the rom is there as i can see the kings 3d ring spinning. the "process android acore" and the "application touch input" not working notice comes up after trying to slide the ring up. I have a sprint evo 4g Thanks. I previously ran cyanogen v2 destroyer fine.:(

well it depends on what you are wiping. if you wipe system, or data then yes your data will be erased. but if you just wipe dalvik cache and cache then no your data will still be there. especially if you do that after restoring a backup, you will loose your data from that nandroid. you only need to wipe data when you flash a rom.

what recovery do you have?

depending on what recovery you have i would use vr superwipe found on the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html sticky. it only works on clockwork mod 2.6 or amon ra2.3. it just use calkulin's clear temp and formats all .zips. just flash this before you flash a rom. especially coming from an aosp rom.

So wiping davlik cache and cache only will not wipe data?
You lost me here:
especially if you do that after restoring a backup, you will loose your data from that nandroid. you only need to wipe data when you flash a rom.
Flash clockworkmod recovey 3.0.0.5
Can I flash a new rom and keep data from the previous rom?

Thanks for responding quickly.

correct, wiping the cache's will not loose data.

if you do a nandroid backup then wipe data then you will obviously loose your data. that is what i meant to say and it seems as if what you were trying to get at in your question. at least that was how i read it.

as far as keeping data onto another rom, the answer is no and yes. you can use titanium backup to backup your apps and your data. in tb just make sure not to restore any system data as it will most likely contain data and bits of your previous rom and add it to your current rom creating all sorts of bugs force closures and it will not run right. so never restore system data.

you can back up your contacts by attaching them to google rather than your phone that way when you flash all you have to do is sign in to google and your contacts are there. also most messaging apps can move the data to th sd card. other then that they will get erased.

the key to clockwork mod 3.0.0.5 is to wipe dlavik cache, cache and data at least 3x. and you can't use the vr superwipe unless you downgrade your recovery. your recovery only supports edify scripting while most things that can be flashed are in amend scripting. so somethings you will not be able to flash like the vr superwipe. amon ra 2.3(the one i recommend) and clockwork mod 2.6 supports both scripting. you can get them here along with instructions:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/259446-clockwork-amon-ra-pc36img-files.html

Ok. That helps out tremendously.
You very much proved your point on not to perform a restore system data as I see now that some of my cyanogen rom and kingdom are bleeding into one another and creating havoc.
I have vr swipe.....using vr, amon ra 2.3 and clockwork 2.6 and support both scripting?
amon ra 2.3 is an alternative to my clockworkmod 3.0.05?
Google contacts figured that out the hardway on my first rom. Contacts backed up.

Thanks

yeah you will have to choose between clockwork mod 2.6 or amon ra 2.3 to use vr superwipe. i like amon ra 2.3, i never heard of any issues with that recovery (most would be linked to user error) clockwork mod 2.6 is an ok recovery. the main advantage is that any nandroids you made with 3.0.0.5 can be used with clockwork mod 2.6. if you switched to amon ra2.3, you can't use your previous nandroids. they will not work.

I could always bounce back and forth should I go from 3.0.0.5 and 2.6 (with its current nandroids) to a new rom using 2.3 and creating new nandroids from that point on correct?

Currently with my Cyanogen v2 Destroyer rom it does give me an option to use alternate recovery ra recovery 2.3 with Rom Manager. If i used that, then my previous nandroids will not work. I apologize if I am repeating myself....I just want to make sure I understand.

Going to menu>settings>about phone>android version 2.3.3 does that have anything to do with the recovery programs numbers? ie..amon ra 2.3.

if you downgrade to clockwork mod 2.6 there is no need to switch back to 3.0.0.5. you can just keep 2.6 as all of your nandroids should work. only when you switch back to amon ra2.3 will they not work. you can always restore your favorite nandroid and switch to amon ra2.3 and make a nandroid backup that way.

and on a side note never use rom manager. do everything manually. rom manager tends to be buggy and create more headaches then it is worth. also if youswitch to amon ra rom manager will not work as far as flashing goes. you can still switch recoveries with it however.
