Called Verizon tech support

My original Droid is starting to flake out so I called Verizon tech support to get a replacement until either the Bionic or the galaxy is released. The lady on the phone was trying to convince me to get a new phone since I am up for a renewal.
Me: "I'm going to wait on my upgrade for either the Bionic or the Samsung Galaxy II (if you guys get it)".

VZW tech: "Well the Bionic has been canceled! You might as well just get one now."

Me: "Really?!? When did this happen?"

VZW Tech: "Oh several months ago it has been in the news for a while"

Me: *Rolls eyes* "That is odd, it is known that Motorola has revamped it and are still on schedule to release it this summer. You guys at Verizon even just put up a webpage a few days ago to enter your email address to get notification on the day it is to be released."

VZW Tech: "Oh well I guess I learned something new, that is great news!"

Good news is, I am getting a replacement phone to hold me over till the Bionic is released. Bad news is it is a refurb Droid 1 that will probably not be any better than the one I have now..... and Verizon still doesn't know how to pass information or train their employees.

Sad part is that it isn't a communication issue.

Verizon purposely keeps all this crap a secret.

And the representative makes money off commission so there is no telling if she was lying or not.

Either way, both Verizon and Reps make more money when new phones aren't announced or released because they are trying to make a sale now.

Bad news is it is a refurb Droid 1 that will probably not be any better than the one I have now..... and Verizon still doesn't know how to pass information or train their employees.

It's amazing how many of us are saying the same thing. All OGs seem to be dying off as of late. The Droid forum is rife with them. And if your experience is like mine, your refurbed D1 isn't going to be much better. I got a refurb about a month ago and it was amazing how nicer and smoother it was than my Day 1 Droid, but after rooting it, it still has the same limitations.

All true. At least I can say it's not like that at our Costco kiosk. While we def want sales now, we value the future sales as well. If after evaluating the customers needs that it'd be best to wait for the next phone, we'll tell em. My manager has convinced more than a couple of people to hold off on the D2 to wait for the D3 (which we don't even have, as of the moment).

Now if I were to walk into the certified dealer at our mall, they will mislead or straight up lie to customers. They really disgust me.

Yes, how about those D1s. Is Moto going to put out more phones that last just past the manufacturer warranty like the D1? I really liked my D1 but was hugely disappointed when the touch screen began losing touch in quadrants. Then that disappointment turned to anger when I saw how many other D1s were experiencing the same issue. I swear if the SGS II was out Moto wouldn't even be a consideration. If HTC had a dual core phone out on VZW now, Moto again would not even be a consideration. But my D1 is toast so I'm forced to choose another Moto device. D3 or Bionic. Hmmm....

Yep, and you can toss me in as another one of those people. Half the screen doesn't work, anymore, including the home and search buttons (the latter is less of an issue). However, it makes it a pita to do anything, and I can't even pick up calls, as the call slider won't slide all the way to the right. Thankfully, I have other methods to address this, but it's just silly.

It's interesting, though. If it weren't for the physical keyboard, my hand would've been forced some months ago...

The SII or the Bionic can't arrive soon enough, honestly.

Got my replacement in yesterday, It was unable to Connect to WiFi (it could detect everything just couldn't connect) I do MAC address filtering on my home WiFi and after entering the WPA2 password 10,000 times thinking I mistyped it because it was so long I went searching other places. After a while I found the culprit. The MAC address changes every time the state of the WiFi radio changes.

I called Verizon back and they ask me right away "is the phone rooted?" I reply that it is not. He does some research and find that this phone was returned to them when someone screwed up their rooting process and the people fixing the phones didn't do stuff correctly. (his words not mine). So here I wait for another phone to try to get something that works the way it should.

You can disable your MAC address filtering and add it once it connects? It shouldn't be changing each time you connect to WiFi (unless you are spoofing it).

Verizon shipped you a replacement phone with dodgy firmware left by a previous owner? That's ugly, I would've thought they'd guarantee known good firmware for anything sent out.

I had to replace my D1 about 1 year after purchase. The refurb was great (even rooted) and my brother is using it now (he cracked his screen). I got an X2 which is a pretty solid phone but with some bugs. Since my bro can't really afford a new phone atm, I am going to give him my X2 and snag a Bionic (with his upgrade) since (just today) 4G is now being offered in my area.
