Root Dual Booting? Android to Android.

Hey all, I'm dying to use the Miui rom but I use the 4G during the school year, so I'm wondering if you can dual boot on the EVO 4G. If so can someone point me in the right direction.

I don't believe you can. Internal memory would be one issue along with having some way to partition the phone. You can however use nandroid backups to do the same thing. 5 minutes or so and you can be running a different set up entirely.

Is there a super quick way to switch between Nandriod back-ups? Maybe something that will back-up current and load old Nandriod in one or two steps. I'm trying to find a way to basically switch back and forth on a daily basis if that is at all possible.

nope not really. you have to do what xtreme says and switch between nandroids.

exactly, just get your current rom backed up, make a nand, set up the other rom you want as the alternative just the way you like it, make another nand, and restore as necessary. it takes a few min and has to be done with the volume/power buttons, but itll accomplish wat youre looking to do

To add, if you SMS backup/restore, you'll be able to (you guessed it) backup and restore you messages. Just make one at the start, name it whatever, then just over write it with the next one. And restore it when you restore you nand, and make a new backup when you backup your nand (or go to a different one).

Not exactly what you wanted, but this is a viable way to swap it up on a regular basis.

Thanks for all of the replies. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and go with MIUI. I really love the folders and the lack of the app tray. Seems to be a really great set-up. I'm just going to miss my 4G. I really hope at some point that they will get that into the ROM. I don't really use 4G all that offen, but I do use fairly often durning the school year. (Teacher). The internet at school is really slow, and 4G destroys it's speed. It's really nice to tether with. But I'll see if I can deal.

Quick related question about jumping back and forth between nandroids: are the battery stats saved in each nandroid? I ask because I often try the battery calibration tips after flashing a new rom, and was wondering if I would need to redo that each time I reflash a saved setup.

No, the battery stats will be wiped when restoring a nandroid Unfortunately, you will have to recalibrate your battery

No worries Wiping the battery stats can be tedious but it can be worth the time

Me neither.....not once since October. Not sure I want to mess with it though, getting decent battery life on the stock 2.3.3 kernel right now.

That's lucky, I got pretty low battery life on the stock 2.3.3 kernel, but I'm sure quite a bit of that comes down to location (and lack of signal).

If you plan on staying on 1 rom for more than a week, I would go ahead and do a battery recalibration, it may give a better indication of your battery life. But for the once-a-day-flashers, battery recalibration is probably not necessary
