Metro PCS has 3G now!!!

I live in Brandon Fl. mine went blank. no 1x nothing... but my Wi-Fi works.
never mind data enabled was uncheck.

for Metro..is this possible?? i see some people in the optimus forum have updated there PRL to 3020 and have got it to work..my friends is on 3019 and we called the *228 number and nothing...any luck with updating this..?Thanks people!

I was coming home from work in Tampa to Lakeland yesterday and I had 3G for a few hours. My phone shut off because the battery died and now I'm back to 1X. I'd love to know how to get it back. I have an LG Optimus M.

So I spent all day in Plant City/Lakeland (Right around County Line Rd) and didn't lose 1x or gain 3G even once. I wonder if they're going to expand this to the Tampa area...

Well here in Jacksonville Florida (riverside) the 3G has since gone away and hasn't come back for a good while.

In fact, I haven't had ANY data for the past week. I just updated my RL and now I have 1x. Dunno wtf is going on. The no-data thing is pissing me off.

Comcast just pissed me off so I canceled them, was hoping I could tether 3G to my computer. Guess not though with the 1x.

Hey do u have system select on metropcs only or automatic cause my friend has it on automatic and 2.1 and he gets it sometimes and I have my on metropcs only and 2.2 and it doesnt go.P.S. I live in dallas

I live in Orlando and all of Orlando has 3g service and mostly everywhere within a 25 miles radius of it. Mine is spotty where I'm at right now (apopka) but in Orlando it never goes off of 3G status. We're capped though at 200k down and 100-130 up.

i think you may be onto something in Dallas...

My friend, her Ascend has 3G, and its also set to automatic...but her's is 2.1. She's planning to upgrade to 2.2

I'm wondering though if this is related to what's done with the phone...like rooting, roms, etc.

See, cause yesterday, another friend with a M835, got 3G on his and its been rooted, but no roms and stuff.

I Live In Orlando And I Don't Have 3G Anywhere!!!!

I'm about to eat my damn phone.

I'm wondering, if I call Metro CS, and ask about 3G, they are going to give the same damn genetic response. "We don't have 3G, we don't have 3G.."

Then why the hell does the commercials and advertisements say differently?

Why the hell does your OWN manual say "3G connected" with the cute little 3G icon?

If these people at the shops don't know, I'm guessing CS knows less...I'm wondering what can I say so they'll I don't know..reset my connection from their side?

With a crappy budget and this message from Cricket..
We're sorry

We currently do not activate new Cricket accounts in your area. View Cricket's Coverage Maps, or sign up to get notified as soon as Cricket service becomes available in this zip code.
In the meantime, find out why so many people are switching to Cricket Wireless.

Yes sir...I'm staring at my Ascend like its a cookie...

So does 3G cause the battery to drain faster? The last 2 days I have noticed 3G, and my battery life has gone from good to bad, lasting maybe 6-7 hours after being fully charged. Never did that before, use to be able to go all day with it. I dont use it while at work, just sits on my desk. Any thoughts?

If the signal is constantly fading/switching back & forth between 3G & 1X,this will definitely run the battery down, as your phone may be continuously searching for a signal to lock onto, whether it be 3G or 1X.

You're both nuts.

BUT LOL.

I can confirm that, as well with Kolio's post, since 3G requires a tad more resources to work properly, its going to drain more battery. Also may want to check your Data settings, some options like the refresh settings, if tuned to do so more often, will require data to be downloaded over 3G and thus...battery :P

Also, here's another thing that's making me go nuts. Look at my friend's phone.

You see that BS right there? She's running 2.2.2 now, I upgraded the phone personally myself. Now it says just 3G where mine says 1x. AND ITS EVEN FASTER. What. The hell. (No custom ROMs, its been rooted with a few apps and the 3G stuck around.)

I'm starting to believe this is 'plan' related, mine's a family based plan while her's is just her own 50$ thing per month.

Don't get to excited I live in Winter Haven Florida my wife and I both have the Optimus M the only difference is her phone says 3G. I ran a speed test on both phones and the phone showing 1x was faster than the one showing 3G so "if" it really is 3G it's definitely capped.

...

......

I just realized I forgot to do a stupid Speedtest on her phone. Strange, I think I did notice a difference but I could have sworn her phone was running faster than mine.

Regardless, I still am pretty steamed over Metro feeding me BS and expect me to eat it.

ive seen some of you talking about refreshing your data settings and changing your prl to anpother number. how does you do this?

I personally havnt tried it myself but i was temping to do it, originally posted by: twistedriku

Note: In this tutorial I will give links to sections where you can download the necessary files needed for 3g service; for LGNPST I will give you the thread where I got my version and it is up to you to find the link I describe because I do not want to be responsible for hosting the file. Also for those who are unaware, I DO NOT GUARANTEE that you will get 3g. This has been something new being reported on the forums and has not been officially announced by Metro PCS. Also, thank andyo70 for his thread.

Step 1: Downloading the necessary files and getting spc code. (Be sure you keep these folders in a space where you will remember them, or easily accessible such as Desktop)

Prl Link: 3020.prl

LGNPST Lab v1.2: LGNPST Lab 1.2 (Better than my fix)
(In this thread, look through the replies until you see the post by asadullah saying "here's the mirror" along with more detail on the file. you will see that the "here's" is in blue, it is a link. Click it and download the file from Google docs. )
You will download a .zip file, but inside the file are three .rar files. Since it is in a .rar file, you will need a .rar extractor.

Windows: Free RAR Extract Frog - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

SPC Code: To get this code which is needed, you can click this link CheckESNFree.com : The only instant, free, online ESN Checker click on the circle next to MetroPCS and type in your MEID in the bar provided. To find this, you can go to settings -> About Phone -> Phone Status and type in the digits under MEID DEC. Or you can take out the battery and in the slot you will see a white tab and you will see MEID above the bar code and a bunch of numbers to the right of it. type this in the bar and then click "Check ESN". The site will give you your SPC code which should be six digits. for example, my SPC is 076500, but yours will be different. Be sure to write down YOUR SPC code or memorize it because you will need it in the last step.

Step 2: Extract the files
Click the andyolgphonestuff.zip file that you got from the google download and extract the folder. As I said before, you will see the three rar files, but you will also see a 3014.prl file, a MS690ZV3_36.scr.txt file, and a readme.txt file. Ignore the rest and open the readme.txt file as it will guide you through the installation better than I can describe it. Do follow the readme closely and be sure to stop following the readme when it says "Make sure that where it says "Provision" it is set to "Upgrade". Do not ask about any of the other modes because I have no idea what they do or how they work." For the Shortcut option, I decided to skip that part and when I installed, I went to C://LG Electronics/LGNPST/ and selected the application that didnt have General in it's name, however you can access it however you want as long as it comes up and reads your phone.)

Step 3: PRL writing
Now that you have everything installed, make sure when you have the LGNPST lab open, you have your phone plugged in and make sure the aplication has identified your phone and it should show details in the box on the right. It'll have details of your phone including your phone number.
Now in the "Provision" box towards the bottom where you see "Upgrade", you will look there for a PRL/ERI tab. Click it, and it should take you to the tab and you will see checkboxes with labels like "Write", "Read", "PRL", and "ERI" as well as two little icons to the left of PRL that look like a folder and a trashcan. It should look like this.

Click the folder icon and find you 3020.prl file you downloaded, click the open and then check the box with "Write" next to it. Then hit the big button at the bottom that says "Start". A popup will show asking you to input your spc code. Input your SPC code then hit "Ok" and let the program do its things, AND DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR PHONE DURING THIS PROCESS. Leave your phone alone until the process is done. Dont touch it, dont look at it, dont even breathe on it. (lol jk, you can look at it or breathe on it, just dont touch it:p) During the process, you phone should reboot and come back to its lock screen, however DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE until the application on the computer says it is complete. Once it is done, you should be updated to PRL 3020, and feel free to check your phone settings to be sure. If you are lucky, you may get the 3G icon on your statusbar, if not, you will still see a good old 1x icon (If you are unlucky, do not feel bad for I have it too)

Step 4: Enjoy (if you are lucky)
Again, I do not guarantee that you will get 3G. You might be unlucky like me and be stuck at 1x. However if you have 3G (you lucky basta**), then enjoy.
