Root [CDMA] [ROM] - Stock Rooted 2.08.651.2 -8/27- This is the Sprint RUU Update with NO mods other than ROOT!

So, there is ANOTHER update or was HBOOT version 1.50 part of the Android 2.3.4 update? Ugh, I need to keep better track of these updates. He did not take the HBOOT version 1.50 update as far as I know. DonB and I go way back to the Sprint HTC Hero subforum, so I know these things. ;)

EDIT: By the way, I hit edit on your post by mistake and I am sorry about that. :)

No, thats not the discussion we are having. We are talking about the HTC Software update that comes out after the hboot. It came out a few days after. BUt that brings me to another question...

Don, did you take the hboot 1.5 update? IF not thats why you wont see the HTC update of 8/26.

Okay, for some reason my post got obliterated and I edited yours by mistake. I do apologize. So, was this HBOOT version 1.50 included in the Android 2.3.4 update or the update that included the added widgets and new radio? Finally, I think DonB did not accept the update with HBOOT version 1.50.

EDIT: Argh, and now that post has appeared again. I seem to be having a bad day with posting. Sorry, folks.

I'll give you the skinny....

There was a FOTA Update ealry last week that upgraded to hboot1.5 and Gingerbread 2.3.4... Prior to that we had hboot 1.4 and Gingerbread 2.3.3.

A few days AFTER the FOTA Update we got an HTC Software update that updates two minor things with the current GB 2.3.4/hboot 1.5 release earlier. The software update is more like a 4G Driver upgrade. People have been reporting better speeds but I cant confirm that as fact due to my physical location. The second file in the update is an HTC Widget update that AFIK doesnt do jack, lol

So to recap....

8/18 - FOTA UPdate to upgrade hboot to 1.5 and OS to 2.3.5
8/26 - HTC Software update to update the 4G "driver" and an HTC widget patch.

Don is saying he saw the HTC Software update but then it disapeard. Thats why I had him look in the /device/data/app folder for the specific files. He thought maybe the forced it on him or it just disapeard. It seems to have disapeared as reported by Don. Thats odd!

But here is my question to Don, did you take the FOTA update and upgrade to hboot 1.5?

If you did not take the FOTA you should not have seen the update as it is OS specific. Maybe thats why you saw it then it disapeared?

If you have NOT taken the FOTA, do not do it! Just use this ROM instead. And upgrade the radio manually.

Hope that clears it up.

Yikes. So that Android 2.3.4 update replaces HBOOT eh? I am glad I did not accept it yet. I know HBOOT version 1.50 makes it tougher to gain root and S-OFF via Revolutionary.

I guess my second question would be, if I root via Revolutionary, can I accept these updates you mentioned and retain root and/or S-OFF? I am guessing probably not. So, that second update you mentioned, does it contain the improved radio as well? Thanks for all of the information.

Yes, 2.3.4 FOTA gives you hboot 1.5. My 2.3.4 ROM is complete and up to date without the hboot or radios, just the /system partition.

Actually if you have S-OFF now with Revolutionary on hboot 1.4 flashing the OTA will not remove S-OFF! You will have 100% S-OFF with hboot 1.5! I know this because I did it as an experiment, lol Just wanted to see what would happen. I didint do the OTA, I flashed the ENTIRE stock 2.08.651.2 RUU!!! I doubt the OTA would be any different.

BUt before you go accepting the FOTA you are warned...

You would be better off to flash the stock radio that came with the FOTA (There is a link somewhere) and then flash My ROM. You will then have same hboot 1.4, s-off, and the latest of all software. And it works great! But like I said, I had to see what accepting that FOTA would do so I tested her out and I am still s-off with 1.5 :D (Thank God!!!!!!!!!)

If you have any more questions don't hesitate to drop me a PM or something. This can be a tricky decision to make.

Scott, I did not take the FOTA update, when I rooted I was on HBoot 1.40 and specifically didn't take the update because I was not root at the time, as for the OTA that update was there 4 times when I checked it manually, and never accepted it, then I was reading in the forums here that many were having issues, but that was not the reason why I did not update, I wanted to make sure that the update was safe to use as I was rooted and wanted no ill effects, now since you all said that it would not affect my root, I was going to do the update, but now when I manually check for the update it does not show up there anymore, and as I mentioned I am speaking from my experience, but if you check in the thread I will post, others that have also not taken the update, they also say it is not there anymore, check here>> New maintenance update EVO 3d 08-26-11

Hope that explains it, that is why I was asking in this thread as I was going to flash the file you posted here but wanted to make sure people were not having issues, but I see that the update seems to be useless anyways, so I need not update just to update, if you also read in that thread and a few others in other forums they also saying the update was for the volume issues we were having, which I still cannot confirm, so that is the scoop, phew I am done, LOL

And the process I used to flash the FOTA and radio file is in this post, so I assume I have the latest radio, http://androidforums.com/3097134-post9.html

Pri Version 1.24_003 Baseband version 0.97.10,0808, so I assume I am updated

Everyone should make it a best practice NOT to take OTA updates once you are rooted. It's never necessary. Rooted versions of the OTA start appearing within hours of the official OTA update. For many people, the flashable version will be available BEFORE your phone notifies you that there's an update available.

If you flash a rooted 2.3.4 ROM, you won't get the HBOOT forced upon you.

I recommend turning off notifications for OTAs. ROM Makers should make sure that notifications are off by default before distributing the ROM. Doing this will significantly reduce the accidental loss of root, or worst case, bricked phones.

Sorry, I turned in for the night it was a busy day, well so far so good, I will verify in a few to see if that APK file is there now as I did not check last night, LOL will report back in a few, because as you know before the update I did have the 4G corp widget, so maybe it simply an update for that widget. who knows, lol

How did it turn out? Are you cool?

OK Scott, I decided to check this morning to see if the app was in the spot you mention, (com.htc.spcscorp4g-1.apk) and for some reason that app is not in that place, now I may still be looking in the wrong place, so I will post you a couple of screen shots, but I did check in settings in ES F E and I do have root explorer checked marked. See images below and let me know if I am still checking this wrong.

Is this my ROM?

If Its my ROM I moved it to the proper location in the ROM itself (with a software update cannot do) which is /device/system/app/

Yep your ROM you posted, and yes you are correct it is in that path, thanks, lol ;) was just curious more than anything.
