My teacher just got a droid bionic and wants to use his computer/projector combo to show youtube videos(its an ap psych class with a cool teacher) that he can't see on his computer because the school blocks it. I mentioned the HDMI port but told him I wasn't sure how he could hook it up to a computer rather than a TV. I mentioned plugging it in into the projector(oldish and crappyish) directly but its mounted on the ceiling and would be a lot of wires. Are there any cables he can use to connect the Bionic directly to the computer possibly with the aid of some software.

P.S. the computer is a decent Dell with midgrade specs and nothing special

Any help would be awesome. Thanks so much.

If the projector doesn't have an HDMI input but accepts a DVI input you could use an HDMI to DVI adapter. HDMI essentially uses the same signal as DVI for the video but also includes a digital audio signal. You would have to hook up some speakers to the audio output (headphone port) on the phone to get any audio. This is assuming that the headphone port isn't disabled when the mini HDMI is plugged in.

I'm 99% sure that audio would go through the HDMI as thats its big thing(idk if the mini part does anything to that though) but would u happen to know a way through the computer because the projector is on the ceiling so to run the cables up there would be a lot of work and mean a lot of extension cables. Thanks!!

You'd have to connect the phone directly to the projector. The only other way would be to tether the phone's data connection to the computer if he wants to avoid the school's network.

Alright thanks! I don't think the tethering would work because the network connections on the comp are most likely locked down and he doesnt have tethering. Thanks a ton!

Audio would generally go through HDMI, but DVI doesn't carry audio so if you use an HDMI to DVI adapter the audio wouldn't get to the projector.

Youtube locked at school? lol
Please tell me you are in HS not College?

When I was in HS 4 years ago they blocked YouTube to the entire district except for teacher accounts. Students were watching so many YouTube videos that they were overloading the network and hogging all the bandwidth at one school while the others had to deal with terribly slow or non working internet.
