How to Remove Google Account on Captivate? Help

I went under Settings, Accounts & Sync, and then under "Manager accounts" i see my gmail account. When I click on it, it saids "Remove Account". When I click on it, it saids "This account is required by some applications. You can only remove it by reseting the phone to factory settings." Ok I did that, but because its a rooted phone, it takes me some weird screen. I do not want to restore it to original settings, I want to keep it rooted. I have no idea how to root a phone (friend gave it to me like that).

HOw do I go about deleting my google/gmail account without restoring the entire phone and losing its "rooting"? ... Is there a way?. If not, oh well, restore to regular settings.. but how? thanks.

Why do you want to delete your google/gmail account? You do realize you can't synch your contacts to Google, nor can you use the market, if you're not signed into your account.

You did a factory reset, so now it's just a blank rooted phone. You should be able to go into Settings, Accounts and Sync and set your account back up again there.

You say the phone is rooted, is it running the stock ROM? You can check that in Settings/About Phone.
