Quick question, will or does it matter if I get the code to unlock my HTC Hero
which is now rooted, can I apply the code and unlock before I flash a New Rom or should I do it after. Also does anybody know if in future flashing if the unlock will be disabled and I end up with a locked unit again thanks, and hope everybody has a great week-end.

I don't plan on getting an unlock code for my phone if it is available. If you get it then HTC knows you are rooted and can report that to your carrier. If you have a problem that is a real warranty issue and not affected by root and have used the unlock code then the carrier can ssay oh well you voided your warranty so we can't help you. If you don't get the code then you can unroot and be good to go.

You can use the code whenever you want. And once you have used it, your phone will be unlocked forever, no matter what you do - so you can flash as many roms as you like.

Unlock codes aren't related to root access. You can use them on any phone, rooted or not :) And indeed you can purchase the unlock code from your carrier (although they aren't usually the best deal). So having an unlocked phone is not an indicator of a phone ever being rooted.

Well my phone is way out of warranty so that is not a problem but thanks for the information and the answers, not sure if I can post here but I purchased the unlock code on line and had it unlocked with in minutes of receiving the code. The price was very good as far as I am concerned, and worked the first time, the company I had used was mentioned on this web site, so thanks. Now my next big challenge is going to be to install (Flash) Cronos Ginger 2.3.1 (2.3.4) onto my Hero, after I do some more reading so I understand the procedure completely first. :D
