I've been messing around in set cpu and cyanogenmods cpu frequency settings and ive figured somthing out.... If you gradually work your way up to the speed you want it will remain stable....as in I was on 806 for a day the. Then 825 a ill stable

Speaking of overclocking, I was wondering what exactly overclocking does. I mean what are the positives and negatives of increasing the CPU frequency?

alright... lets compare it to a PC processer the o[ppimus v has a 600 mHz processer and overclocking it will allow you to have it run at speeds up to 864 mHz like a computer with a 2.6 gHz processrr vs a 3.0gHz processer

I'm always afraid of "frying" my CPU though.. is that something that can actually happen if we go too high? =/

nah.... setcpu and cm7 wont lety you go any higher then 864 mHz to keep it safe

Overclocking adds additional heat, heat is bad for electronics. With a PC you add additional cooling, not something you can do with the Optimus.

it only lets us go to 864 (witch my phone runs just fine as no heat well no more then usial) to keep too many issues from happening

Download a battery temp monitor and I think you will see differently.
The BACKside ROM, at 787MHz-480MHz, should be at 19c screen off,in an air conditioned area. No more than 41c in the heat of the day.
If you start going above 40c to much it will shorten the life of your phone. I use to work on avionics sytems on a jet aircraft. Heat and the power surge from turning them on, caused more component failure than even vibrations(this is also why I only turn the phone off to go into my recovery,other than that it stays on 24/7).

I like to shut mine down over night every so often. Just to give it a 'rest'. My wife plays way too much 'Angry Birds' or now 'bunny hunter'.

Sorry, it's bunny shooter. Same thing as angry birds only you use a bow and arrow and you have to get the bunnies instead of monkeys or whatever in angry birds. It is kinda fun.
