People, if you want to save battery...

go to settings>wireless & networks>mobile networks>network mode> and then instead of automatic(or any other setting) select the "Sprint Only" option

:thinking:How would that save battery?

That would mean that your phone would only sync data when it catches Sprint signal (which is somewhat weak compared to other networks) and when there isn't any signal, your data would still try to sync, but have no signal to be able to complete sync.

Might as well switch on and off from Airplane mode, if you're not going to take advantage of the free roaming.

I read an article a couple of weeks ago (can't find it now, of course!) saying when there is a wifi signal available, stay connected to it to save battery. The theory is that when you're not connected to wifi your phone is constantly searching for the closest tower. When you're connected to wifi your phone doesn't have to search at all.
I tested the theory myself & found it to be dead on. I literally got over 24 hours on a single charge, staying connected to wifi. Could be coincidence, yes. I haven't tried it again since that time. But for me to get 24 hours on a single charge was AMAZING!! I wasn't using it heavily, I guess you could call it moderate usage.
I changed the setting on my photon to NOT turn off wifi when the phone was sleeping. If you read the helpful hints that came pre-installed on the Photon it tells you to do the opposite. They're supposed to be the experts so maybe it's just a coincidence. If I can find that article I'll post the link. It may have been in another forum.

Edit...I found it! Android 101: Save battery by keeping Wifi alive | Android Central

I think the helpful hint about turning wi-fi off was just with regards to the radio toggle being turned off when you're not in a static location (e.g. in one place where the wifi signal is consistent). That would apply when you're walking or travelling because the wi-fi radio will continually search for wifi signals, while you're walking, so it would literally be turning the radio on and off, hence causing the phone to work harder and, in theory, drain the battery more.

btw...I had NO clue about the advanced settings for wi-fi until you mentioned it in this thread, so thanks for posting that!

People who want to save battery have obviously never owned a Evo.

Right? I was happy to get 8 hours out of that battery.

What's funny is, I was one of the rare few that actually got pretty good battery life out of my EVO. BUT...the MoPho absolutely destroys it in that regard. I use my MoPho WAY more than I did my EVO and still get the same exact battery life out of it that I did on my EVO (that I would tend to use 3 X's less for fear of battery drainage).

Now, I'm streaming more often than normal. I'm listening to music, texting, etc...and not worried about my phone being dead by the end of the day with all that activity.

Oh, and on top of that, I have all my non gmail emails sync'd to push every 5 minutes.

I think the battery life is great. The phone comes with a larger battery than most already. I get longer life with more use than my previous phone or my wife's Epic. I keep chargers all over but the only one I seem to use is the one by the bed where I plug in at night. I have had 40'/. with moderate use during the day and heavier during the evening, when I plug in at bed time. It beats the heck out of charging mid to late day or not using my phone much during the evening.

I always got good battery life out of my Evo, but I was pretty religious about turning things on and off. If I unplugged in the morning, I could go all day and all night on light to moderate use. If I forgot to plug it in, it would still have enough juice left to get me through the morning, although I only made to a second evening once or twice. If I used it heavily during the day, I would usually need to plug in by evening.

But yeah, the Photon destroys it in battery life. I never have to pay attention during the day, even with heavy use. I have no fear of running out of battery before nightfall.

people, i was just giving you a tip. it really does save battery(even though the battery life is already amazing). whenever you have it on any other setting than "Sprint Only", if you ever lose signal, you start roaming! this means your phone is searching for a signal thus wasting battery. trust me, i got a whole 48 hours before dying. this is especially handy when you know you might lose signal or are in a metal/steel building

That's great! But if I am about to lose signal and in a metal building (my work for example), I WANT it to go into roaming so I can receive txts and phone calls. If I leave it on Sprint Only, I get nothing because the signal is so bad. it really does suck because the cell tower for sprint is slightly over a 1/4 mile away and its signal barely goes through the building. Verizon on the other hand uses a tower slightly further and in a different direction, but their signal goes through the building much better.

Yup and the MoPho can do that without draining a crazy amount of battery. The EVO struggled with battery life in the same type of circumstances.

a true noob question ....is there a set way/ settings to save on battery life with a mopho coz sometimes mine goes dead before the end of the day with little use ?

thanx

First thing you need to do is figure out what stock and downloaded apps that you have on the phone that are pulling data consistently. Make sure that if you have apps that continually pull data (but you don't need them to), you adjust the settings on those apps to update less frequently.

Next, keep 4G, wifi, and bluetooth untoggled until you actually use them. There are several different apps that can allow you to have quick toggle (or you can even use the stock widgets).

Lastly, make sure that your brightness on the phone is not set to full brightness all the time.

After you've gone through all those steps, your battery life should be much better. "Little" use is all relative to different people's situations. It's hard to determine what you define as "little" use because that may be considered "normal" to some. So, if you want to get an evaluation on why your battery dies by the end of the day, it'd be helpful to have a breakdown of what you would consider "little" use.

i don't have any 4 g in this area, i do have wifi on when at work because there is no reception where i am at work( while at home none..straight 3g), google maps, text app(stock moto), all emails are synced every 4 hrs(only 2) and a few gaming apps but only play them when charging so.....i have been using the airplane setting at work which helps. and i have the battery usage on the phone set to the middle one( regular usage but shuts/slows down at night) and the breakdown of usage is mostly on stand-by like 50 % or a bit more a distant second is apx 17 % and calls(roaming??) to automatic....oops i'm not rooted either

could it be the battery.....if so is there a way to check it with out going to the sprint store.

hope this helps some

thanx again dude

Try toggling GPS off, while you're not using it.

FYI - Apparently the latest version of facebook for android is a battery HOG!! I just killed it when I was alerted that I was down to 15% after just under 6 hours on battery.

I looked up the usage - of all that 43% was Facebook, meaning that today 36.55% of my charge from last night was wasted on facebook updating.. and I have the referesh rate set to 1 hour.. so theoretically all that juice was wasted on 6 refreshes?? I may have hit next on the widget 2-3 times today..

Might want to kill that app if you cant figure out why your phone is draining so fast. Im almost tempted to delete it. What a joke.
