NOV 6th Boys and girls...get you some 4g goodness!

the bad..." ....retaining the WVGA resolution. " so looks like no HD ....but ATT still has no official specs up on their page so I remain hopeful.

AT&T's First 4G LTE Phones: HTC Vivid, Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket | News & Opinion | PCMag.com

It's also been announced on At&t's facebook and twitter...still trying to find a bit more info like final specs and pricing

Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is an LTE-enabled handset with a spacious 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display with a resolution of 480x800 pixels. The handset runs on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and under the hood, a 1.5GHz dual-core processors makes it tick. An 8-megapixel rear camera allows capturing video in 1080p, while up front there’s a 2-megapixel snapper. The Galaxy S II Skyrocket features 16B of on-board memory, expandable via a microSD card by up to an additional 32 gigs.

I dont actually personally have the device in hand today but my friend picked up the test unit today.

as of today the only thing I have for you is the devices first quadrant of 2358. That may be a bit lower than what the SGS2 tested when I had that in hand....I will need to go back to my notes.

carrier information coming soon and I hope to physically have this thing in hand by Monday at the latest.

Since so little is known let this thread serve as an area to discuss device specifics.

Also post questions of anything you want me to scope/test on the phone.

this phone is listed to have a snapdragon processor. it will be interesting to see how it holds up compared to the exynos that will be released in the SGS2

please keep release speculation in its own thread. It is too early for that anyway.

i am being told the official release name will be "Skyrocket"

As a reminder....this is a hobby for me. I run a retail store in no way shape or form related to phones or even electronics. I do this in spare time in between running a successful business, raising a 10 yr old and planning a wedding that is coming up on 11-11-11.

By no means is any information I obtain official nor should it be considered to be from an official source.

Until Official pics are released...expect none from me.. it is one of the rules, sorry :(

Just a few questions:
Is this supposed to be the SGS2+?
US release or EU?
Display type & resolution?

Thanks for the tidbits :)

US release..otherwise I would not have this opportunity (or the ATT bands)

I have not confirmed resolution or display type...being a Samsung device I am positive it will be Super Amoled+ ..resolution should be what is listed in the specs but I will confirm when I have in hand

I will also add any info as far as naming ..but that seems pointless because that can change up to release date

(Samsung Attain for instance...it's now rumored two weeks before release that it will simply be the Galaxy S 2)

It seems strange that there would be this Sammy/VZW offering so close in specs and timing to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (formerly Nexus Prime). The main speculated difference that I can see is ICS (Nexus) vs. Gingerbread (Celox), and the Celox has a slightly smaller screen (4.5 vs 4.65 for Nexus).

Celox is an ATT phone...I have said that a few times already (i thought)

The Prime will also have the Super AMOLED HD screen @ a resolution of 1024x860 or something.....a higher resolution than the 800x640 resolution on the Celox. With that said....the Prime will feature a Pentile screen instead of the RGB screen on Celox.

The Prime will also have a 1.5-1.8 GHz TI processor.....while the Celox will have a 1.5 Snapdragon.

I've also heard rumors that the Prime will only feature a 5mp rear facing camera....while the Celox will have the 8mp one found in the other SGSII variants.

But as Ed said....this will probably be a Q4 AT&T phone. There are some rumors that all the carriers may get the Prime, but I wouldn't hang your hat on it.

I don't doubt your information, but hard to believe this gets released any time in the near future (more likely next Spring?) with the AT&T GSII imminent and so little LTE coverage.

Oh no not at all...there are currently at least three devices rumored to release with LTE by the end of Q4...a Motorola device , the HTC Holiday and the Celox

but...keep in mind that it may not release at all....It's in testing...

With the 10.1 tab and the SGS2 he had those devices approximately 45-60 days prior to release. I am curious to see if the info he gave me on the SGS2 release date for At&T pans out (Oct 2nd)

LTE went live in 8 more cities last Sunday btw...

No keyboard

trying to get us a release date now...he was spot on for the release date of the Attain (sgs2)

The Galaxy S II will be available starting October 2 for $199.99 w/2-yr contract! Min. $15/month data plan req'd. social.att.com/VDq

check their twitter and facebook

I still think it is silly to buy the phone...he is testing the Celox now (1.5 Snapdragon proc with LTE)

Exynos 1.2 GHz is faster than Snapdragon 1.5 from everything I've heard.

I guess if you really think you're going to get AT&T LTE in your area in the next 2 years Celox might be better, but otherwise I don't see how it would be.

Unless I'm missing something in the other specs.

Btw, thanks for all the info Mr. Ed.

I will check tomorrow.

Official retail name as of now will be the Samsung Skyrocket

this does not match previous rumors of galaxy s2x

keep questions coming....device will be in hand tomorrow

How has the battery life been? (may be a question to ask your friend)

Does it get decent reception?

Could this phone be similar to the Infuse (GS1) where it like says GS2 on the back, but isnt really THE Galaxy s2.

Also, thanks for answering all these questions and keeping the forum updated!

great reception.

speed tests came in at 10-14 mb down and 4-8 up in an industrial area.
he has seen as much as 20 down

we could not find a way to turn lte off.

the back plate/battery door was plain....no texture and no markings. we suspect this door is not final.

the screen is claimed to be the 720 hd version....and was amazing
i had no way to confirm hardware

Benchmarks came back great. will update with more info later
