Wife and date packet, which is dominant?

I am new to smart phones and internet on the phone. The AT&T rep told me when I get home and use wifi, I should turn off my data packet, but the rep on the phone told me if I have them both on, the phone will default to wifi, and not my data packet. Can anyone clarify this for me?

When u turn on wifi it will cancel out ur 4g.. U can actually see it happen at the top of ur screen... That H+ symbol will disappear thats ur data.. The one that costs u money... It will switch to wifi that doesnt...

When u leave ur house or work where u are connected to wifi and it can no longer pick up on it the wifi will go back to data automatically.. But u should turn off wifi because it will be draining battery looking for wifi connection...

Hope that helped... Heres an example.. Im home.. Browsing this site.. I just looked up and saw the H+... It is eating up my data plan... I should be on wifi... Will be switching as soon as i post this...
