PB only recognizes wifi in infrastructure mode. Which means it wont see wifi made with the free wifi hotspot apps like wifi tether and barncle. You need to use the official wifi hotspot that comes with the phone. Either pay 20 bucks/month or try to cheat the system using a method like this ...

Anyway to tether my Samsung Gio on stock 2.3.4. Gingerbread firmware to my Playbook via Bluetooth? I heard that Bluetooth tethering would use less energy than using the wifi hotspot feature.

When I try to connect through bluetooth, the two devices pair up fine. But at the stage wherein the Playbook asks for the wireless provider, no settings seem to work out right (with Bell Mobility in Canada). The result is always my android phone cannot be found.

Has anybody been able to successfully tether over bluetooth their android phone and Playbook? Just wondering if I am stuck doing wifi hotspot, though it's just the battery drain I'm concerned about.

Thanks for any thoughts on bluetooth tethering!

Hey guys,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... but the site owner has decided the following and has had Phases add it to the Forum Rules:
Tethering without required plans, working the system to return devices you broke, etc:

Tethering without a carrier required required plan is theft of services. You are stealing from the carrier. It goes beyond modifying your own personal device.

This is something we are not willing to help members do. Much like talk of how to work the system to return devices you've broke, etc. That too is theft.

Some say, "well, rooting is against the TOS, so....". Rooting, if against the TOS, could result in a suspended account. That is on you and your responsibility and we're willing to aide in letting you make that choice. It is your device, you should have that choice.

These issues aren't related to rooting in this sense and shouldn't be compared as such. This is a decision made by the owner of this privately run site, which we have the right to do and enforce.

Risking your device == ok.
Theft == not okay.
