Random reboots / will verizon let me swap to a different phone?

Info: unrooted DX (tried rooting and running a custom ROM and still had reboots) / on my 3rd replacement / phone randomly reboots up to 3 times a day / have factory reset at least 10 times / bought original DX 1 year ago.

By looking at the Moto support forums and various other forums this seems to be a Moto issue. I truly do love my DX but the random reboots are getting really old.

My question is what are the odds of verizon giving me a replacement phone (not an upgrade, just a clean swap). I'm not looking to get the latest and greatest phone (that would not be fair and I'm only looking to get a 3G similar spec'ed phone) until I actually use my upgrade so I'm wondering what the odds are that they will replace my DX with an Incredible 2. I'm giving up on Moto at this point...

this was told to me once by a verizon rep, once you get 3 replacements you are then eligible to get a phone of equal or lessor value, and it does use your upgrade, thats how they got me with the blackberry tour.... :( but once i learned that little bit of info i knew to be weary of what i buy lol.

make sure they do not alter your upgrade eligibility date, because they did it to me. this has been at least 3 years ago though.

Thank you all for the tips :)
One call to 611 is all it took and they literally could not have been nicer and more helpful. Coming from ATT (after I switched to verizon last October) this is a nice surprise how great the custom support/service is.

My Dinc 2 is being overnighted and I wil have it tomorrow! They are even sending me the extended battery!!

I will miss all of you and IMHO you DX users are extremely helpful and this is the best forum area on this site. Take care guys and girls and thanks again...

Did they give you the choice in which phone? I'm experiencing the same random rebooting, especially when at the unlock screen, this happens at least twice a day. I love my X and I know I wouldn't get a new one so I'm reluctant to try to replace it and I love this section of the forums. I'm also eligible for an upgrade but don't want to use it just yet, I'm trying to wait to see what comes out by Christmas before I upgrade.

I actually requested the Dinc2 as my replacement since it had the most similar specs. I'm sure if you are having issues you can request your choice of phone. I was sure to be really nice to the reps and was also totally honest with them. I told them I rooted and even tried a custom ROM to see if that helped with the reboot issue.

He understood and all he said was to be sure I was on an "official" verizon software release before I sent my DX back.

Sometimes this counts as your replacement. I would clarify this before accepting any phone. They are only going to let you move to a refurbished phone. Incredible 2 is a nice phone, dual core, etc. You made out.

Thanks, I verified everything and this is nothing more than a simple replacement phone.I was sure to also verify that this would not affect my upgrade date in any way and he said my actual update date would not be changed in any way

Thanks for the info. I'll be calling tomorrow as soon as I get a random reboot. I may just go to a X2 just to have a somewhat faster phone and still be able to use my cases and what not until I'm ready to upgrade. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get the extended battery? Did you just tell them you already have one and will be sending it in with it so they upgraded it for free?

I've talked to two different reps and they're both telling me that my phone is out of warranty(even with the total equipment coverage)and I'll have to file an insurance claim to get a replacement. That'll cost me $45 to get another phone. I guess I'll just have to pass on getting a replacement and stick with my DX for a little while longer and deal with the random reboots and freezes. :(
