Okay guys, I'm somewhat new to rooting. I've got a Sprint Evo 4G with 2.3.3 and baseband version 2.15.00.0808, if that's what revolutionary's page is referring to.
I rooted my LG Optimus M w/ 2.2 using Gingerbreak and that was as simple and painless as can be. I wasn't really that worried about it because it's a cheap phone.
So the problem is...I'm completely overwhelmed at the moment. I've been reading the "Newb Guide To Rooting" from this forum and it's gotten me to the point of feeling somewhat confident in casting hesitation and caution aside, but, not all the way.
I want to know if all of this is completely reversible, no matter what? I know that the potential to ruin the phone completely is there. I assume that's only if I install some crud or start messing around with unknown ROMs...right?
The main purpose, for me at least, for rooting my phone, is to gain better performance via uninstalling the bloatware and other non-essential items. I do not know if a custom ROM will further this goal? I'm annoyed with the stock HTC Sense garbage that disallows me from using the traditional "draw to unlock" sequence. Well...makes it very annoying to use, I guess you could say, since you have to slide to unlock, THEN draw the code.
I wouldn't mind a custom ROM but I don't even know where to begin there...heck I'm not even completely sure if "custom ROM" refers to altering the way the entire phone looks? Or is that a kernel? *headdesk*
